"Jane has scored the highest for this test!", Mrs James called out. Everyone around started congratulating Jane, clapping for her mockingly.
Jane seemed unmoved and indifferent to her surroundings and stared right ahead while her bullies threw crushed paper balls at her discreetly. 'Stay calm and don't react', she thought to herself. The bell rang and everyone hurriedly packed and rushed to their other classes. Jane sat there, still wondering why, why, why did it have to happen to her.
The memory still hits her like a ton of bricks.
Her parents.
Brutally murdered in front of her eyes and all she could do was watch helplessly, becoming orphaned. 'It's all my fault. I just sat there and cried. Why didn't I do anything?'
This made her an easy target for bullying. Teenagers really are quite heartless when they want to be.
Every single day was now hell for her. The mocking and teasing was getting worse so she stopped reacting to it. But that didn't stop them.
Snapping out from her reverie, she hastily packed her things and scrambled out of the room not wanting to be late for her next class and draw too much attention to herself.
