What the hell am I doing?
The question blares through my mind like a siren but I'm much too occupied to answer it.
The kiss is gentle, yet insistent. Just a soft brush of his lips on mine, with the undercurrent of something else that causes a warmth to spread out deep in my belly. I don't even have to think about how to respond. My lips are already shaping themselves against his effortlessly, as if we have done this plenty of times before. As if I had done this plenty of times before - which isn't the case, at least not with a stranger that I've known for all of ten minutes.
His hands rest on my shoulders and his fingers press lightly into the fabric of my sweater. The heat of his body seeps through the layers of clothing to my chilled skin beneath. I shiver at the conflicting temperatures. He must feel it, because he pulls me in closer, crossing his arms over my back and guiding me into the pocket of shadows by the saloon. It affords a little privacy, but I know if someone were to walk by they would certainly see us. And if they somehow didn't, my audible breathing would surely give us away.
My body is flush against his, molding to the planes of his muscled chest. I'm enveloped by the secure grip of his arms. I have to tilt my head back just to reach his face, but he's bending his head to help minimize the height difference. His hands slide up my back and weave through my hair close to my scalp to hold me steady. I can't recall ever being kissed in such a way that my body is craving more almost instantly.
In my enthusiasm, I lift myself up on the toes of my boots while leaning forward and the momentum carries me towards him faster than I expected. He lets out a huff of breath as his back hits against the side of the saloon.
"I'm so sorry!" I start to pull away from him, feeling embarrassed by my forwardness.
"You have nothing to apologize for," he rasps, the confinement of his arms tightening around me. His face has turned a brilliant shade of scarlet, but I'm not sure if it's a result of his embarrassment or our kissing. "Do you want me to stop?"
"No," I say softly. All hesitations I might have burned away the second his lips touched mine. Desire is coursing through me, as untamable as a wildfire. It's an entirely unfamiliar feeling, but one that I can't ignore. "No, I don't want you to stop."
He exhales sharply at the unmistakable yearning in my voice and reels me back in towards him. He angles his head this time to kiss me more deeply. He tastes like coffee and spice, an intoxicating combination that I want more of. Feeling emboldened, I allow my lips to part slightly and am rewarded with his tongue sweeping across my lower lip. He makes a quiet noise, a mix between a groan and a sigh.
I gasp against his mouth at the sensation and he takes the opportunity to graze his tongue softly over mine. His actions are almost hesitant, as if asking a question. My hips involuntarily tilt towards his. I can feel his hardness even through our layers of clothing. The substantial evidence of what this is doing to him only makes my need stronger. I clutch firstfuls of his dress shirt in my hands but somehow that doesn't seem to be enough.
Suddenly, he spins us and I'm momentarily caught in a whirlwind of movement. I feel my back make contact with the brick wall behind us. The material is so frigid that I let out a yelp. It quickly dissolves into a whimper as Harvey begins trailing open-mouthed kisses from my collarbone up the column of my neck.
My fingers dig into his shoulders as he reaches a particularly sensitive spot just below my ear. He nips at the tender area and then lets out a soft hum of encouragement when I arch up into him. The vibrations of the noise shoot straight down through my body, all the way to the aching between my legs.
"Please," I hear myself say in a ragged voice that doesn't sound like my own. He chuckles softly at my petulant tone and presses his lips to mine once more. One of his legs nudges mine apart. I don't resist. I couldn't even if I wanted to. It's as though my body is responding to him with no interference by reason.
