Them...
"What do you want?"
Her cold voice sounded by the counter, loud enough only for him to hear. Ryker merely stared at her.
In his silence, she continued to talk.
"It's not a coincidence that you suddenly show up here and just sit and look. Not with your son, not in here. What do you want, Ryker?" Heaven's voice was just as cold as earlier, piercing gaze looking up at him due to their height difference.
He was taller, bigger than her. But after all they've been through and what they used to be, he didn't scare her. Never did.
The only emotion she was feeling right now was frustration and anger.
She didn't need him climbing up her walls again. Didn't need his presence in her life just as she was trying to starting over.
Just when she was finally trying to be happy again.
Again, he only looked at her. Eyes meeting in a close distance yet seemed so far away.
Ryker breathed deeply before opening his mouth, attempting to answer her question. She was expecting him to answer directly, on what he wanted and why was he here.
Except he did just the opposite.
"Is Hudson causing you trouble?" he asked.
Why in the heck would he answer a question with another question? Is he an idiot?
Heaven stopped herself from slapping her face and sighing in front of him. She controlled her emotions and expressions as she once again looked up.
"No, he's not." It was true. He was a good kid. And except for being awkward around him for the first few days, Heaven had adjusted in his presence. Besides, Hudson didn't have to carry the burden of what his father did from other people.
Especially not from her.
Before she could talk and ask her question again, Ryker was already opening his mouth for another of his.
"Why did you drop him off that day?" he asked again.
Heaven's brows furrowed. His eyes were piercing her soul but she didn't know what to answer. It seemed like he didn't know what his son went through that day, and Heaven wasn't sure it would be right if she was the one who told him about it.
She'd have to let the kid talk to his father about it. She didn't want to meddle in their family affair.
Heaven sighed, looking over at where Hudson was just outside the cafe, looking down and playing with the pebbles by his feet.
"It was night then, and it's dangerous for kids to go home alone." she explained, short but concise. She didn't want to spill anything rather than what she thought at that moment.
Ryker studied her face, blinking after a few moments. And then he nodded.
She was about to speak again when he turned around and left, walking towards his son who was waiting and then continuing down the street to where his car was parked.
With a confused look, Heaven followed them with her gaze. She didn't understand why he would ask those things, didn't understand why he didn't answer her question.
"Just what do you want with me, Ryker?" she murmured unconsciously, speaking what she was thinking as she watched them leave.
And honestly, she had no idea on what the answer was.
