Chapter 5: The Rogues

"I CAN PROPERLY control my abilities, don't worry."

Isang linggo na ang nakalipas magmula no'ng inampon kami ng ahensiya. A lot had happened within those days. Inilibot kami ng aming mga kasamahan sa kabuuan ng headquarters at ipinakita na rin ng mga ito ang silid na aming tutuluyan.

We were then immediately trained and taught how to hold a weapon. Inaamin kong hindi talaga madaling magsanay sa paghawak ng sandata lalo't hindi ko naman nakikita ang sariling ginagawa ito.

Fortunately for Chase, who had coped well and was now comfortable holding his chosen weapon—the war axe.

Kasalukuyan kaming nasa training room ng headquarters. It was Monday, and I was glad that they considered giving us a break from weapon handling today and chose to examine our ability to control our vigor.

Sev chuckled. "Your ability is harmless, but thanks for informing me."

He was positioned two meters in front of me. Tinitigan ko lang ang mga galaw niya. Siya kasi ang nakatokang tulungan ako sa paggamit nang maayos ang aking abilidad. I instantly frowned at that thought. I already told them, especially Ace, that I have the full grasp of my ability. Ano pa ba'ng kailangan kong matutunan?

"I already told Ace that you can fully control your mind reading ability. Pero mukhang gusto niya talagang masiguro kung nakakaya mo na bang gamitin ito nang hindi nawawalan ng kontrol," dagdag pa ng lalake.

I raised a brow. Ano'ng tingin ni Ace sa akin, sinungaling?

"Alright, let's just act as if I'm training you. Ayaw na kitang pahirapan pa, pero ayaw ko ring managot kay Ace." He sighed and smiled at me. Tumango na rin ako at bahagyang ngumiti. Mabuti pa 'tong si Sev, mabait. Hindi katulad no'ng isang pabida roon sa kabilang dulo ng silid.

I glanced at Ace who was guiding Chase with his ability. Ang s'werte ko pala at kay Sev ako napunta.

"Nasaan nga pala sina Mav?" Kaninang umaga ko pa kasi hindi nakikita ang dalawang babae. It was so unusual for them to not show up, especially Sie, who'd everytime challenge Chase to a one-on-one fight.

"Oh, right! Nasa bukana sila ngayon ng Greenvest, kinakalaban ang iilang rogues," sagot ni Sev habang nakatayo at nakahalukipkip pa rin sa aking harapan.

"Rogues?"

He nodded. "The humanoid wolf-like creatures."

My lips formed an "O". I didn't know that those werewolves had a name! Pero teka, Greenvest? Malayo 'yon dito, ah? It's actually a thick forest surrounding Wesdale. Ito ang nagsisilbing boundary namin sa kabilang lungsod.

"They don't need the time gap, though," he added. "The forest can hold them back from the people, and we already tracked the number of rogues around the area. Hindi naman ganoon karami, kaya na nila 'yon."

I heaved a breath. My forehead creased, not because I was worried for those two girls, but because I realized that sooner or later, I'd also start slaying those creatures . . . alone.

"C-Can you tell me more about the rogues?" I wanted to know more, like why were they chasing us? I knew that we had the power, but there could still be another reason.

Silence enveloped the both of us. Nang tumagal ay binalingan ko si Sev ng may nagtatanong na tingin, at nasilayang nakatitig pala ito sa 'kin. Moments later, he gave me a smile and nodded. Sinenyasan niya muna akong magpanggap na ipinipikit ang aking mga mata, kunwari'y sinasanay ang aking abilidad.

Now, I'm starting to curse Ace at the back of my mind for making me do this.

"What do you want to know about them?" asked Sev.
