The younger woman finds herself in front of Jennifer's apartment, with tears stained check, she had been standing out there, encouraging herself to just knock in her formers friends door, she needs to finish this back and forth between them, she needs to be the bigger person and step up into something she didn't knew it was possible to feel.
Neither her calls or messages were getting answered since the day they spent arguing on the beach, where she left with Brad after the boy came looking for her.
He was confused but didn't want to question it, because we'll, friends fight all the time, he didn't need to listen to the younger girl rant about the older woman that was always mean to him.
The front door opens, and the blonde's image is similar to her own, minus the part that the older woman is standing in her front door in pajamas, looking at her friend, checking the clock to know exactly what time she had been woken up on.
For once, sleep had come easy to her, not without a good cry, but recently that has been her routine, which left her exhausted. Tired enough, that she didn't have any energy left to dream of good times, different outcomes. Possible new finals to their relationship. Other than being best friends.
"What are you doing here?" The blonde woman murmurs, she can feel her eyelids momentarily closing when the younger woman doesn't utter a word. She even thought that for a moment she was dreaming. But no.
Emily moved, opening her mouth before letting it shut again, because what was she doing here, how she could be so selfish that she had to disturb not only Jennifer's life but her sleeping schedule too.
"Can I come in?" She is weary, not wanting to disturb if the question is rejected she will walk back to campus and forget of the urge to fix things, until they cross paths again. Giving her friend space, that was something she asked for. A thing that Emily completely ignores.
Because the thing is that no matter what, the brown eyed girl can't be without her other half, she is certain that they could have made it work. And it almost happens. Almost.
The door opens wider and she steps inside Jennifer's house, she had never been there before. She had gone countless times to Brad's, even though they are not together. But never found the courage of coming out here. Even less when Jennifer came looking for her that day nearly six weeks ago.
"Do you want something to drink?" The older woman offers, because no matter what the outcome is, she had to be good to her house guest, that's if they were to come over again.
"Whatever you are having" Emily replies looking around the room and her heart breaks when she locates one of the pictures the two of them had taken the day their graduation took place. "Beer it is"
"Why are you here?" Jennifer inquires, handing her one of the cold drinks, maybe the drink she chose was not appropriate, but she needed it, if she was going to be talking about her feelings again with the younger girl.
"I missed you" Emily tells her, letting the untouched beer on the table and looking at those blue eyes, looking at the person she hoped to spend the rest of her live with, "I miss my best friend"
"Well, you really have some ways of showing me that dont you?" Jennifer takes another grand sip and finishes the beer, she had been perfectionating that nowadays, it was better than deal with the 'what if's'
"You were the one who didn't answer my calls" Emily feels herself get annoyed, because she was not the villain here, she did everything she could to reach out to her friend and still go ignored.
"Yeah I did not answer them, but if this situation was reversed, I would have been here earlier than you" Jennifer states, and it was true, it happened once and the blonde woman came rushing into her house the moment she did not answer.
"You know, when I was little I dreamed with finding the one, early in life" The older woman announces, looking at the brown hair her friend had dyed, from the previously black one she had, "And I thought I found it"
"I thought I found it, when we meet, when we started dating and every time you were around me, the first few times, I really felt like my heart would burst out of my chest, months later, it settled, the rhyme was slower, you calmed me down them" Jennifer adds smiling sadly at the tears that were invading the younger girls check, "That's how I knew that it was love"
"I knew right then, that I was prepared to die first if it meant I would protect you"
"Would you take a bullet for me?" Emily asks, completely in awe of what the blonde woman had shared, she did know now the pain she felt.
"That's not the point" Jennifer answers going to throw the two empty bottles to the bin, leaving some space between them
"Would you?"
"You don't understand, do you?" Jennifer feels herself being set on fire once again, the connection between them has always been strong, like a force you could not fight against.
I already sacrificed myself" She considers looking g at the younger girl's teary eyes, "there's nothing left of me"
"What do you mean?" Emily is in pain, she feels her heart break more than she possibly thought it would
"I wanted to find somebody to die for" she pauses, letting the tears fall completely now, she never talked about this with anybody, "When I was little I thought that dying would be nothing if I did it for the right person"
Emily lets the silence settle between the two of them, a few moments to absorb what the older woman had admitted, "What happened to us?"
Jennifer smiles sadly at the younger girl who is by her side now, not leaving an ounce of space between them, she places a delicate kiss to her temple, "Maybe we were right for each other, but we did it wrong"
"You really treated me well. '' The brunette girl admits, she had not felt like anybody since they broke up. She really thought that kissing Brad and going out with him would help her forget, heal from her past, but it didn't. Perhaps it damaged her heart more, because it ached for someone else.
"Well, you deserve the best" Jennifer chuckles passing the younger brunette a cold glass of water, "I was enthusiastic that you crossed me to do the job"
"Never had anybody else willing" Emily jokes, she only had eyes for the blonde woman back then, she was the only thing she saw completely clear, she thought that they would be an end- game.
"Maybe you didn't gave them the attention" The older girl interlocks their hands, "But there were definitely boys and girls wanting to be with you"
"The point is that I" she pauses, let's the other finished glass on the table, before looking at her brown eyes," I wanted to make you happy again"
"You can '' Emily assures, interlocking their fingers, this time, the older woman's hands are warm, to her cold ones, the fire within her had warmed her heart, but her hands were another thing. Either way, the older woman always seemed to know how to do the job.
"What do you mean?" Jennifer inquires, confused, the younger girl's hands are calming the fire inside of her, helping her in a twisted way exthinghin it. Perhaps this is the conversation they needed to have to heal.
"I want to try again, '' Emily declares, thrustfully, looking hopeful at the older woman, who is trying to make sense of the situation. Could it be that Emily wants to fight for them again?.
"Okay" Jennifer agrees happily, hugging the younger woman close to her, this time the hug was for happiness and not to reconstruct her breaking heart.
"But we need to ease back slowly, without rushing it" Jennifer advises, kissing softly the palm of the brunette girl, "So, first is our friendship and trust who are in need to repair"
"Does that mean that I can still hang out with Brad?" The brunette girl teases, noticing the discomfort of her own words in her body.
"Don't push it Em '' Jennifer says before kissing her check, warm waves of heat going through her body, maybe this was what being completed felt like. This was what twin flames did when they collided. Everything felt perfect, but both of them knew that they had a long road before, what they had became what they have now.
