*Roan's POV*
Soon after River woke up people were warming up to us.. well me at least. River stayed attached to my side the entire time we stayed in the compound while I would answer questions. Every now and then she would butt in to angrily correct them or roll her eyes at whatever they happened to say but can you really blame her? Her father was just killed by these people. I always felt kind of guilty for that day, sure I hated my father for what he did to our mother and I but I knew the pain of losing my primary parent and yet I hoped every day that her's would drop dead. I knew that she felt guilty as well. She never said it or even really showed it but I knew. She felt bad that even though her father , who she loved, was a horrible person she couldn't help but mourn him.
A couple of weeks had passed and even River was starting to be nicer towards them (mostly Natasha). Though the entire time we were there she refused to answer, or even look at, Steve and/or Tony. Although Tony was technically kind of our uncle, because him and our mother's sister were dating (Virginia Potts), he didn't seem like he wanted us very badly. My whole entire life the only thing that kept me from turning out like my father was stories mother would tell me about her life before our father ruined her. Stories of her wonderful family that didn't have to choose between being outcasted or forced to fight. I dreamed almost every night about what it would be like when I finally met my mother's family but for the three weeks we stayed at the compound, Virginia Potts appeared a total or 0 times.
"Where is our mother's sister, Virginia?" I questioned Tony one morning while he, River, and I ate breakfast.
"Well," he paused while taking a long gulp of coffee. "She's a very busy woman." He answered.
"Too busy to see her only remaining family?" I shot back, now slightly peeved that she wouldn't even bother to see us.
"No. She will be by to see you soon it's just that... it's hard for her to see you two because you remind her so much of her sister... and your father." He murmured slightly squeamishly.
And in that moment it hit me. She wasn't busy or mournful. She was terrified of us- no not us, me. I have always looked just like my father, and now she refuses to see either of us because I look and River acts like him. Even in death he is ruining any hopes of a functioning family I could have.

It was later that very day that they sat us down at the large table in the center of the compound. Steve spoke first.
"We have some good news."
"Yes?" I asked as he had taken a long pause before continuing.
"You will be attending a new school." He said to us. Not as a request but as an order.
"Excuse me?" River and I said at the same time. We had never even been to school before. She was taught many subjects by our father and I learned from my mother and a couple of house maids. I could tell River's anger was rising when Steve spoke again.
"Well, less of a school and more of a... place for you to get help." He finished.
Now I could feel it, River's rage bubbling over.
"Help! Your sending us to a F*cking Phyc ward!?" She shot out of her chair making it fall back and hit the floor as she slammed her fists in the metal table.
"No, it's just a facility for kids who grew up in unstable households. Children who need a bit more help before joining the rest of society." Steve said as if it was the simplest thing in the world. There was no reason to even question his own morals. He was so confident, and then River spoke.
"You better hope your joking! You are not causing us all this f*cking trauma and then just shipping us away for someone else to puppy train us!" She spat at him, slowly raising off the ground as her power got stronger and her eyes turned red.
I could see now the slight hesitation in all of their eyes. Tony looked very sure before but now was questioning himself, Natasha never really seemed on board with the idea but didn't look like she planned on saying anything about it, Bruce and Clint disappeared long before the meeting even began, and Steve, like a deep rooted tree, stood his ground with pure confidence behind his eyes. Did he not think how this would affect us or did he just not care?
"It's to keep you and others around you safe. They can teach you to control your powers." Steve stated simply and the moment it left his mouth I knew it was a mistake.
"Oh, I'll show you just how much control I have!" River yelled as she jumped over the table completely and grabbed the collar of his shirt.
Steve grabbed his Shield and swung it at her. She easily grabbed it and threw it across the room where it wedged itself into a stone pillar. Now I could see it, the falter in his confidence. The slightest hesitation plastered on his face. Tony grabbed River's arm to which she responded by twisting his wrist back making him stumble backwards. She turned around to see Natasha's (very powerful) tasing gun pointed directly at her. Her eyebrows softened slightly as she turned back to Steve and pushed him backward in his chair as she let go of his collar. Without a word she walked up to the room we had been staying in and began to pack. I followed soon after her. There was nothing left to say. Not even a goodbye was in order. We got on a plane the next day and left them all behind. Or so we thought.Dang this one was I think the longest so far. Roan's perspective is very different because he is more cool headed and mostly watches what happens. Tell me what you think so far! ❤️
