Jasper was playing Xbox 360 against his younger brother Kolt, but he felt the eyes of someone else in the doorway resting on him as he focused intently. He took a quick glance to the side when he got the chance, finding the youngest of the family stood in the door, watching his eldest brothers play. Alex. Well, this couldn't possibly go well.
"Why don't go away Alex? Leave us alone," Kolt called out suddenly, startling Jasper, who gritted his teeth. It seemed that Kolt had been aware that Alex was watching them too. He turned to his youngest brother and gave him a quick, apologetic look.
"Kolt, Alex wasn't doing anything to annoy you," Jasper replied in the calmest voice he could muster when he looked back at Kolt. "He was only watching us play. That's all." Kolt shot Jasper a death- stare, insistent that he was right.
"I wasn't even talking to you, Jasper ," he muttered coldly, Jasper finding himself recoiling further across the couch as through his brother was an uncaged, dangerous animal, clutching his controller almost protectively.
"I'll go next whoever loses this around..." he heard Alex offer quietly, breaking the sudden fearful silence created between the three siblings, but Jasper could see in Kolt's expression that he didn't want his brother to go next. He grimaced again, knowing there was nothing he could do in Alex's defense.
"Alex, you're not going next!" Kolt insisted with a scowl, whilst in the midst of desperately mashing buttons. "And I'm still going next. Definitely not you," he added with hard resilience.
"Oh," the youngest sibling murmured quietly, slumping defeatedly into an armchair, but the two only ignored him. Kolt evidently with no remorse whatsoever, but Jasper couldn't help feeling bad for Alex.
Eventually, Jasper decided to take authority as the oldest in the situation; he paused the game, and as he looked up, he saw the almost toddler-like rage boiling in Kolt's face. As it was, Kolt had dragged him out of bed earlier than he'd usually wake up to play, and as he glanced at the analogue clock resting on the far left wall of the living room, he noticed that it read ten o'clock in the morning. Still, through, the warning look on Kolt's face admittedly struck fear into him. He took a breath and searched for excuses to get out of this scenario, blurting.
"I'm... Going to wake up Ryder." Shooting onto his feet, he took his controller with him and handed it to Alex on the way out the room. "You can take over while I'm gone," he hastily whispered to him, letting Alex take controller from him with a pleased smile and a small,
"Thanks," in response.
"So? Well, what are you waiting for?" Kolt snapped suddenly, Jasper flinching at his sharp tone. Kolt had always acted up over things so quickly, regardless of how simple the matter was. Someone beats him in a game? Furious. He gets ever slightly irritated or impatient? Cause for a violent outrage. Jasper just didn't understand him, but being focused to grow up in the same household as him had kind of focused him (and the rest of his siblings) to get somewhat adjusted to his behavior. As such, he simply ignored this comment, frowning when Alex put down the controller and grabbed his arm.
"Can I come with you?" he asked, Jasper considering allowing him to. However, Kolt seemed to be cooling down after that short lash-out, so he relaxed his tensed muscles and shook his head.
"Don't worry, Al. I'll be back," he promised as his brother scrunched his nose up in disappointment. He let Alex sit back down, leaving his brothers alone as he left the room. What a great idea.
Jasper stormed up the stairs with the most speed he could gather, making his way straight toward his brother's bedroom. As he stopped in front of the door to Ryder's room, he was unsurprised to see that he's left it slightly agape the night before, and peeped through the opening to find him sound alseep under the mass of his unfixed, dark red bedsheets. He catching flies in a deep sleep when Jasper pushed the door open slightly more and called his name.
