I rush through the streets of Paris, dodging rich and poor alike, trying to not get spotted by the inspector who had been chasing me for the last few minutes. He was way too slow for me. I carried on running, my tangled auburn hair flowing behind me like a kite. Dirt rimmed the hem of my skirt making the edges look old and tattered.

Eventually I had maneuvered my way through the crowd and was weaving through the backstreets, intent on getting to my spot under the bridge where I would sleep tonight. I didn't often stay in the same place, but under the bridge was my favorite place to take shelter. As I reached the bridge I ducked under and made myself comfortable. I took the small roll of bread I had stolen out of the pocket in my skirt and took a bite, savouring the flavor. However, before I could bite again, big boisterous hands grabbed the roll from my hands and stole away with it.

"Hey! That's my lunch! Give it back! " I shouted after the figure, who was far into the darkness by now.

I stormed back to my hiding place and tried to fall asleep, once again left with an empty stomach.

"Just go read a book will you, and stop being so damn annoying! " my father shouted at me. Once again we had gotten into a spat about politics, and he wasn't happy that he had lost his point against my logic.

I bounded upstairs, my blonde curls bouncing about like springs. To make a point I slammed my door and sat down on my bed with a thud.

One day, I would change this mess. I would lead the people out of darkness and into a new world, where all were equal.

But for now, I just had to be content with outwitting my father.
