NIGHT 1 - THE WAVES

Not long had passed since we had found the body, but the sun had set and the moon was the only thing that illuminated the beach.

After I had thrown up, the boys had found a towel to cover over the body as we tried to decide what to do with him.

Which is what we all stood in a circle around him doing.

"I don't get how it even happened." Kirin mumbled, glancing up at me out the corner of his eye.

"The tide was vicious." Seth started.

"Rip a dudes face off, vicious?" I questioned. I had meant it to come out strong, my nerves where on edge and that was what I had expected. Instead my voice was low, barley audible. And even tho my stomach had already been emptied, I had to swallow down the urge to bend over heaving.

My throat burned and the taste in my mouth wouldn't go away.

"He must have got hit by a breaker and gotten attacked by something." Seth continued as if I hadn't spoken, but I knew he heard me by the way his eyes just barley glared at me. Or maybe I was just searching for people to be upset with. Reasons to be defensive.

"Shit, man. Nature doesn't play." Scotty said looking around at everyone, and then to the exact nature that had been so cruel.

"So what are we gonna do with him?" Bo asked. He was crouched down beside the body and he looked up to us.

"We can't leave him here. Every carnivore on this island will come for him... and then us." Henry added the last part reluctantly.

"It also wouldn't be right. We can't just leave him to rot on the edge of the island that killed him." I huffed, barley managing to speak without my voice breaking.

All the boys nodded, Bo and Kirin where the only ones who looked up at me. "We could do a navy funeral... like some of my dads friends in the service." Bo suggested.

"He means at sea." I gave Bo a half smile in understanding, "My grandpa.." he nodded understanding.

"Absolutely not."

"With the thing that ate him, bro? Fuck, no."

"It does sound a little.. cruel." I mumbled. I honestly wasn't sure what we should do, I didn't want to be making these kind of decisions.

"But we don't really have another choice. It's either on the island he got stuck on, or the ocean that killed him. I frankly don't want to see a dug up grave so I vote ocean." I explained and the looks I got back where a mix of impressed, bored, and distressed.

"No, no, guys, guys. I- I think Harper and Bo are right." Seth agreed.

"That's fucking insane." Kirin obviously didn't like the idea. "If we... if we weigh him down and we keep him close, then we stay safe." Seth explained, but it was practically what I said.

"Osama bin Laden was buried at sea." Henry nodded as if trying to talk himself into the idea.

"God, who even cares right now?"

"Okay, so who's...pall bearing this affair? Because if there's something out there that can literally deface a bitch... I think I'm a no." ?? tried his best to hide his fear, but it was visible.

We where all scared. Of things on this island. Things back home. Things that lurked in the ocean that kept us stranded. Every single one of us tried our best to hide it, to pretend it wasn't there, that it wasn't real. But we all knew it was, we could all see it but no one dared to speak it.
