DAY 1 - 𝘕𝘌𝘞 𝘋𝘐𝘚𝘊𝘖𝘝𝘌𝘙𝘐𝘌𝘚

We kept walking on the beach for a while. Eventually, everyone started to fall behind Kirin's steady, fast pace. Blisters were starting to form on my feet from my wet shoes, but I still pushed myself to be just behind Kirin.

"Yeah, I'd like to humbly suggest that we go back. This is obviously a wasteland." Henry stated from behind me. I sighed and looked down.

I was starting to lose hope of ever finding anything and hearing someone else say it, made it more believable in my head. When I looked up I saw Kirin look away from me with furrowed brows, facing forward again.

"We'll find something, all right?" Kirin stated not slowing down.

"Not before we lose daylight," Henry replied. Kirin finally stopped walking for the first time in a while to look back at him. I turned too, seeing why he stopped. Henry held his hands up in a shape towards the sun like he was a character in an adventure movie.

"Why do you keep doing that thing with your fingers?" Kirin asked, laughing to himself a little.

"Gauge how long till sunset. Every finger is 15 minutes." He put his hands to his side before looking over at Kirin.

I looked at my hand, trying to mimic the shape Henry had been holding up before looking up at the sun and putting my hand to it. Squinting a little and tilting my head, to try and see how much time we have.

I came to the conclusion that I have no idea what he was saying and put my arm down. A small pout on my face as I looked back at the group.

"What are you? Some kind of Boy Scout?" Kirin asked in a tone of disbelief.

"Yes." Henry smiled back sternly. "We'll I- I quit in ninth grade. I ended up wanting something different for myself... aesthetically." Henry explained.

"No shit," Kirin said before he started walking again, and we all followed after him.

"Look I- I don't love agreeing with fuckin' Testosterone Jones over here," Scotty started and the name made me smother a laugh. "but, um, I do think we'll find something."

"I sure hope so, I'm getting tired of walking in these boots." I huffed looking down at my feet.

"I mean, it's like I was saying, we're probably about to roll up on some sick Architect's Digest type house, you know, owned by some billionaire or something." Scotty smiled. His optimism combined with Kirin's made me start to hope.

"Yeah, let's hope not."

"What are you talking about, Damien?" Scotty asked purposely calling Henry by the wrong name.

"His name's Henry, I think." Scotty's best friend- whose name I had found out was Bo -corrected him in the nicest way possible.

"It's fine, Bo, I think your friend was just drawing a parallel between me and the Antichrist boy from The Omen," Henry explains to Bo. The boy simply says "oh." And Scotty snickers.

"But to answer your question, yeah, I've got zero desire to stumble upon the home of a wealthy recluse." Henry continues with the previous conversation as I start to tune them out. On purpose or not, I don't know.
