A loud and startled gasp fell from your lips as you heard another clap of thunder.

There's a huge storm going on outside, the worst one that you've seen in a long while.

The rain is coming down hard, the lightning keeps lighting up the otherwise dark sky, the wind is making the branches sway hard, and the sound of the thunder is almost making you jump out of your skin.

Storms don't bother you all that much. You're fine with every part of it except for the thunder.

Thankfully, Shuhua is home for this one, so you're not suffering through it by yourself.

However, despite how loud the rain and thunder are, she's sleeping tightly beside you.

Meanwhile, you're wide awake and practically trembling from how frightened you are.

You closed your eyes and tried so hard to get some rest but the thunder kept hitting hard and every time it hit, the more it scared you.

You waited anxiously for the next clap to hit, pulling the covers up a little more as your heart hammered against your chest in fear.

And just as you thought, a few seconds later, it hit again and this time so hard the house shook.

You couldn't help the shriek that left your lips before you pulled the covers over your head and squeezed your eyes shut, wishing away the thunder.

Your shriek awoke Shuhua, who quickly turned on the lamp and then pulled at the covers.

She pulled the blanket off of your head and before she could say a word, you threw your arms around her and clung to her tightly.

"You scared me, baby." She quietly said as she kissed your head. "What happened?"

Another crash of thunder hit and you jumped in her arms.

It only took that for the pieces to fall into place.

"Oh, my love," She sighed sadly and held you a little tighter. "You should've woke me up."

"I didn't want to disturb your sleep." You spoke against her skin as you buried your face into her neck.

She would've joked around by telling you that backfired considering you woke her up with that shriek you let out.

But you were trembling in fear and she chose to comfort you instead.

"It's okay, sweet girl. I've got you."

You exhaled shakily and went to loosen your grip a little, only for the thunder to return.

You whined and seeing you so frightened shattered Shuhua's heart.

"Shh," she shushed softly. "I'm here. It's out there and we're safe inside, where we can cuddle together under the blankets."

You slowly pulled away and stared into her eyes, anxiously waiting for the next clap of thunder to hit.

"Look at me, darling," Shuhua softly spoke as she hooked her fingers under your chin. "I'm right here. You have no reason to be afraid. Just relax, baby."

You closed your eyes and let out a heavy breath as she started to brush her fingers across your skin.

"Come on, lay down with me." She said before she started to slowly lay down, pulling you down with her. "Alright, there we go."

She reached over to turn off the lamp, only for you to stop her.

"No, please don't turn it off yet." You begged as you buried your face in her shirt.

She pulled her hand back and started to rub your shoulder comfortingly instead.

A few seconds passed before an idea came to your mind.

"I've got an idea." She said as she grabbed the remote.

Turning on the tv, she flipped through the channels where your favorite show plays at this time each night, and you found even more comfort when you heard the familiar voices of your favorite characters.

You lifted your head from her shirt and stared at the tv while Shuhua turned off the lamp.

"Okay. There we go, sweet girl. That better?"

You nodded and even smiled a little as her lips brushed against your forehead.

"I'm sorry you're stuck being awake with me right now."

"I'm not stuck being awake. I can go back to sleep at any time. I just don't want to. Not yet." She smiled as she played with your hair. "Don't worry about anything. Just focus on me. I've got you. The storm is still going on but we're safe and sound right inside our warm, dry home. You're safe with me."

You closed your eyes and listened to her heartbeat, focusing on that, as well as your favorite show, rather than the terrifying sounds of the thunder outside the window.

"You're the best girlfriend." You said and she just shook her head with a smile.

"I just love you and care about you, baby. That's all."

You relaxed, letting go of all of your anxieties as Shuhua held you close and brought you all the warmth and comfort that you needed.
