As confusion swept over me, Brooke started to explain. The room was the old common room of the dorms, until a horrible incident happened. Nobody knows what happened, or how it happened. Although, there are countless rumors of student's theories. The room was seeled up and hidden away. When you ask any teachers, or staff, they play dumb and act like they never knew about the room. Brooke was saying how only a handful of girls knew about it. And the few girls who do know, aren't allowed to tell others. (For whatever reason.) So, my being told was a special occasion.

We hung out around the room for what seemed like ages. Such a good way to start the first day of school, huh? Brooke and I decided it would be best to just go back to our rooms. Since we definitely already broke curfew.

I crawled up in my dorm bed for the first time. As I drifted away to what is called 'dream world' I began to worry about my category. What if I get put into a really bad category that's useless? Or if I don't get put in a category at all? I would end up being the dumb usless kid in the back of the class with no friends. All my worries were balled up in a little pit of nightmares. None of which I could seem to remember, of course. Sadly, morning came faster than expected, and I almost overslept. I wonder how well Brooke was holding up. Probably no better than I.

I rolled out of bed and threw on the school uniform-ugh, uniforms. The uniform could have been worse I guess, it was a nice button up shirt with a small tie at the top, either kaki shorts or a plaid skirt, and no open toed shoes. Very stereotypical. Right after getting dressed I received a knock on my door. I heard a bright voice chime, "Aa-mmmaaannn-ddaaa!!!" It was none other than Brooke. Coming to meet me on the way to breakfast.

"Sleep well? I know I didn't." the question was obviously rhetorical. She lowered her voice to a whisper and came in close. "Did you like, the room?"

"Yeah... it's a little creepy though. What do you think happened?" I said.

"Well, I have a small theory," she said, "I think-" but she never got to finish what she was going to say because we were rushed down the hall by a group of girls and the dorm's Prefect. I swear girls can be worse than a hungry pack of wolves sometimes.

We were rushed down to the Mess Hall. At least, that's what everyone else calls it. Brooke and I sat as close to where we sat last time. We plopped down on a two double jointed chairs. Preston and Brandon showed up a few minutes later with the rest of the first year boys. They sat beside us. Just like last night the two older men walked toward the front, with the Not-So-Trust-Worthy guy following behind them. This time they introduced themselves properly. The first man stepped up to the microphone and began.

"First things first," he spoked with an odd accent. One that seemed pretty extinct, "I will properly introduce us all, as I did not do a very good job of it last night. I am Professor Magister, headmaster of Bally Wardens School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." He pointed to the other older man behind him, "This would be Professor Parvulus, Assistant headmaster of Bally Wardens. He will take my place for any misfortunes that I may encounter." he then pointed to the clumsy man standing next to Professor Parvulus, "And last, but certainly not the least," he smiled, "Dr. Rusticus, the school's secretary." He took a deep breath. "After our morning feast, which I know everyone is looking forward to, we will hand out the schedules for this semester. I hope everyone will have a great school year..." His words surfaced over my head. I looked over to Brandon, he seemed to be soaking in every single word. Preston caught my eye and pulled a puzzled face. I pointed at Brandon, and he shrugged. As if to say, 'Yeah, he's always like that.' I started to focus back on Professor Magister's 'speech.' And at a good time too, "We may now began the morning feast!"

The strange 'creatures' swooped around as the tables popped up out of nowhere. I got a better look at one as it made bacon appear on my table. It had a strange misshapen face. It reminded me of one of the flying monkey's from The Wizard of Oz. Except it had bird face. I leaned over to Brooke and asked what they were called. She answered, "Oh, there called Dediscos. It means 'forget' in Latin, because most people forget that they are there. There's a big history of how they came to Bally and started serving our meals. But I forgot the story. Ironic, huh?"

"Yeah, I guess so." I said with a sigh. Today was going to be the first real day at Bally. I was extremely nervous.

I got a plate of eggs and sausage. I was scared to eat anymore than that, in thoughts that it might come back up. I observed the Dediscos more closely as I ate. I guess I was a little too curious, because Brandon started snapping in front of my face to get my attention.

He smirked, "Anyways, what I was trying to say, was I hope we get similar schedules. Especially since Amanda doesn't know anybody else here." He gave me a death stare jokily and we shared a laugh.

Pretty much everyone had finished eating so Professor Magister walked back around to the front again to distribute the semesters schedules. He called all the first years to front and to form a line around the edge of the wall. That was our cue.

When we got in a group by the wall Professor Magister began reading names to get there schedules for the semester. He did it in the classical 'ABC' order.

He read the first few names, "...Aaron Anderson......Alexis Alexander..." I didn't really pay attention to all the names that were being called, I just waited for mine. "...Alex Baker......Amanda Bradford..."

I walked up to the front of the huge room. Professor Magister smiled as he gave me my schedule, he said, "Here you are, Miss Bradford." as I walked away, I could have sworn he winked at me. I walked over to the group of first years on the other side that had already received their schedules. They were comparing and seeing what classes they had together. I didn't know any of them so I just kind of stood there awkwardly, not saying or doing anything with anybody. I noticed one kid standing to the side though, she looked like what some people would call a 'scene' kid. Since I didn't have any other option, (other than just standing there, looking like a dunce) I took my chances and propped myself against the wall, right next to her.

For a few seconds I just locked eyes with her, scrambling for words to say, though, of course, I couldn't find any. Eventually I just said, "Uhm, hey I'm, uh, Amanda." So much for trying not to be a dunce.

She nodded, "I'm Halyn. You're the new girl, right?"

"Yeah, this is my first year here. But aren't we all new?" I answered.

"Well, I guess so, but I heard you didn't know about wizardry until the day before you came." She paused, "Is that true?"

"Yeah... before two days ago, I never knew anything about the wizarding world."

The idea seemed alien to her, she changed the subject after a few seconds of her puzzled look. "So anyway, you're friends with Brooke and all of them, right?"

They way Halyn said it made it sound like a bad thing. I answered her anyway, "Yeah... why?"

"Oh, um, it's just..." she looked at her feet, "They aren't the nicest people sometimes."

"They've been nice to me so far. Why what did they do?" I asked her.

"Oh, um, its nothing, really." It seemed like a touchy subject, so I tried to steer away.

"Let's compare our schedules." I said.

It was the first time I actually looked at the paper the Professor had given me. My classes seemed pretty ordinary. At least, as ordinary as a wizard class could be. In order I had, Transfiguration, Flying, Charms, Potions, History of Magic, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Astrology.

Halyn and I had Flying and History of Magic together. By the time we finished talking, all the first years had finished distributing the schedules. We were ushered back to our seats, where I caught up with Brooke, Preston, and Brandon.
