Carina's pov:
"A pulse of 40... Not healthy at all...", I said as I removed the pulse oximeter from my daughter's finger and turned myself to Maya.
"If she's not getting better in 2 hours, I'm gonna head to the hospital with her to get some fluids in her body."
Maya nodded at my statement and grabbed the glass of water trying to get Skylar to drink something out of the straw.
She took one sip but immediately pushed herself up running to the bathroom. We both followed her, joining her again on the bathroom floor while she emptied her stomach even though it was already empty.
I hugged her tight so she could let her body relax in my arms while still shaking."Carina, Love, I don't think we should wait 2 more hours. She hasn't drunk anything in the last 24 hours and is constantly throwing up and shaking. Don't you think it might be better to let some of your colleagues look over her?", Maya asked me with a worried hint in her voice.
"I'm gonna call Arizona right now and ask if she can make an emergency appointment for us.", I told her and left the room to make the call.
Maya's pov:
Carina got out of the bathroom and I joined Skylar on the cold tiles.
Tear stains were on her cheeks and I could feel the exhaustion radiating from her body.
"She got some time for us now.", Carina said to me leaning on the frame of the bathroom."Can I lift you up Sky?", I asked the girl.
She gave me a thumbs up and I slightly laughed about her gesture.
Carina grabbed a blanket for her daughter because even though it was summer, she was rather freezing.I loaded her in the car and Carina drove off to the hospital. I looked over to Skylar, her face all pale and eyes unsettled.
"I don't feel good..."
"Carina, stop the car!", I said and she stopped right away. The teenage girl opened the door and threw up once again before getting back into the car.
"Sorry...", she mumbled.
"No Bella it's fine!", Carina reassured her from the front and we drove the last few meters to the hospital. My beautiful Italian girlfriend opened the door and I carried Skylar out of the car and into the hospital where we took a seat in the waiting area.
"Carina! Maya! I don't like to see your daughter here as a patient!", the blonde woman said to us chuckling slightly.
"Let's get into a room.", Arizona told us and gestured us to follow her."What brought you here today Ladies?".
"I had to pick up Skylar from school because she passed out and at home, she got even worse... She had thrown up several times and can't even walk on her own...", I told Arizona."Normally I wouldn't have brought her here Arizona, you know me, I'm a doctor, but her pulse was extremely weak and she is dehydrated and I thought you could help her to get some fluids in her body.", Carina said to her doctor colleague.
Arizona nodded and started to examine her daughter. The girl winced in pain and you could see that every movement hurt. "Since when did she lose all the weight Carina?", the pediatric doctor asked her.
"I haven't lost any!", Skylar joined the conversation before her mother could say anything.Arizona turned herself back to the teenager. "Skylar, the last time I saw you, you weren't underweight.", she told her with a sad smile.
"I am not underweight!", she said in anger. "Skylar, please behave!", Carina told her daughter sternly."Carina, since it's so late already I would suggest letting her stay here overnight and hang her on an IV. We're gonna see if she's better in the morning and then we're gonna talk about the weight situation, okay?", she explained to my girlfriend.
Carina looked over at me and I gave her a reassuring nod. "Yeah that's fine with me!", she answered. "Skylar?", Carina turned over to look at her daughter and waited for her okay. "Fine", she said and Arizona started to get a wheelchair since she was still dizzy and struggled to walk.
In her room, Sky got hooked up to an IV, where she received fluids for the night. Carina went over to her daughter and kissed her on the forehead. "Good night Bambina, we're gonna be here in the morning.", she told her and I also waved before leaving the room.
Out of the room, Carina led out a sigh she was holding in the entire day and fell in my arms exhausted.
"I can't believe that's happening to her... It's something I always tried to save her from and now I didn't even notice her weight loss. Maya, I don't know what to do.", she whined in my arms."She'll get help Carina... We're gonna get her a therapist and we'll see if it's just a short phase. Maybe she just needed this collapse to understand how dangerous mental illnesses really are and she gets back to normal teenager life.", I said trying to sound hopeful.
We left the hospital, knowing that she gets help there to feel better and hoping that she'll behave.
Skylar's pov:
I was madly pissed at my Mom and Maya and all the doctors but mostly I was pissed at myself. How did I end up here in the hospital as a patient just because I passed out in gym class?
I felt weak. Weak that I couldn't finish my run and weak because I made my mom realize that I am not doing fine. My plans didn't work out.
I was a complete failure and everything I can do about it is nothing because I'm hooked up to an infusion and can barely move.Normally I would have gone on a hardcore run to punish myself and my horrible body but now there's nothing I could do about it.
Every hour another nurse came into my room to check my vitals and replace my infusion bag. And I hate to admit it but the fluids helped me to finally feel like a living human again.
My mind was racing and the night went unsettled. What did Arizona mean with we're gonna talk about the weight situation?
I know I couldn't be underweight.
That's just not possible of how I see myself in the mirror. Adults are so dramatic and overprotective...Finally, I got the sleep I desperately needed but before I could drift off into a deeper sleep phase I was wakened by a knock on the door. Glancing over at the digital clock next to the television I saw that it was already 7 am and my mom and her girlfriend joined me in my room.
"Oh good morning Bella.", my mom said and hugged me tightly. She sounded relieved and I don't understand why. Did she think that I'm gonna die because I passed out in gym class?
"Mom I'm not dying", I reminded her chuckling slightly and also making Maya laugh.
"Sure, sure I know, still I was worried.", she said with a rather stern look on her face.
"Like you always are.", I added laughing about my mom. "Looks like you're way back to normal with teasing me like that.", she said and we slightly laughed about the situation.
Then the door of my room opened again.
