"Where could Benicio and the rest be?" Alice muttered under her breath.
The lady, whom I still didn't know the name of, was wiggling around, trying to loosen up the rope that was tightly tied around her wrists and ankles. She even attempted to bite the rope around her wrists but failed because she couldn't reach behind her back. "Dear lord. Why aren't the police here yet?" She began to hyperventilate with worry.
I grimaced then turned my head around to face Alice. "So what's your plan?"
"My plan? My plan was to follow your plan!" Alice groaned and let her head drop. I sighed.
"I don't think they'll find us any time soon, Alice. They probably still think we're inside the building."
She shook her head. "No. Benicio would know that something is up because of how long we took. I don't doubt that they're on their way right now." She huffed and stuck her nose up.
I didn't answer and instead looked around the room we were in, I was about to scoot closer to Alice but then felt something sharp against my left arm. It was a nail, with the point of it sticking out of the wall.
I had a plan...
***
The three of us were tiptoeing through a hall that lead us out. We were able to get out because I used the sharp end of the nail to cut my way out of the rope and then we used Alice's locksmith skills to bust our way out of the room because using a gun would have been loud.
We silently sneaked past a couple of rooms until we heard some noise from behind. A faint sound of footsteps could be heard.
"Oh cuss. Go into that room!" Alice whispered and shoved us into an empty room. She locked the door as the footsteps got louder. Alice cuffed her ear against the door to listen closely and make sure that whoever was outside was now gone.
The lady bit her nails in fears because a couple of voices could be heard from outside.
"What do you mean they've escaped? We'll go find them you nitwits!" It was Wally's voice. "Check every corner!"
My heart started to pound. I cover my mouth before I let out a gasp.
Alice kept a finger to her lip, indicating that we should stay quite. She cuffed her ear against the door once more. Silence. She opened the door, just a tad, just enough to be able to get a good look outside. She nodded. "The coast is clear. On my signal, we are gonna make a run into the nearest empty room and wait once more."
The lady seemed hesitant with the plan but agreed.
"Go."
The three of us quietly rushed out and quickly made our way further down the hallway. Most of the doors were locked, all except one at the far end of the hall.
We were just four rooms away when we heard Wally again. He was in one of the rooms that we were next to and he was just about to leave it.
A feeling of dread crept up from the pit of my stomach. We froze, there was nothing else we could really do but to-
"Run!" Alice yelped. We both ran behind her.
Wally slammed the door open. "Go after them! I need those pieces!" He shouted at his guards.
We we're running as fast as we could. At the end of the hallway, we noticed that we way another way we could go, left or right. We didn't have time to think we so ran off into separate directions. Alice and the lady went right but I went left. It was to late to return to them because there was a guard right behind me.
I looked behind me to get a good look of how far away he was but then accidentally trip over my foot. I fell on my face. I quickly looked up and saw that I was at a dead end. There was nowhere to run. Fear crippled me, freezing every muscle of my body. The guard slowly walked up to me wearing a smug smirk. My heart began to throb in my ears, loud and irregular, but I barely heard it, for my mind was clouded with fear. I crawled as much as I could away from him.
"Well, well, well. Look who we have here." It was Wally. He came from behind the guard. "(Y/N), right? It's been a while." He smirked. "You can go now, I want it to just be me and her." Wally told his guard. The guard nodded and left.
I narrowed my eyes. "What do you want, Franks?"
"Isn't it pretty obvious? I want the pieces." His smirked grew.
I was puzzled. "But- But why did you give the gear to Benicio then? Why did you help him?"
"I guess we could just say...I had you guys do all the work for me." He paced across the hall. "The gear was merely used as bait. I would make the demon believe that he could keep the gear then he would continue to search for the rest of the parts. And after he found all of them...I would take the gear and the rest of the pieces back." He confessed.
"But the Ink Machine, you gave him the address-"
"You actually believe I would give him the machine that easily? I already had it. It's been sitting in my basement, and once I get all of the pieces, that miracle will be mine." He smirked with pride. "So, I'm gonna ask this once, where are the pieces, (Y/N)?"
I bit my lip. I was about to make a run for it but Wally took out his gun. He tsked, "Ah, ah, ah. I told you, you only had one chance." He put his finger on the trigger. My eyes became as wide as saucers. He pull it. I closed my eyes, ready to embrace the bullet...but it never came.
"What the cuss?" He grunted. "It's jammed!" He exclaimed.
This was it, my chance.
I ran fast than I ever had before. I could hear Wally yell after me but I obviously payed no attention to him. I ran in the direction that Alice and the lady had gone to which led me outside. I examined the area, there was a dirt road that lead to a big gate and a fence that enclosed the entire place. I quickly searched for them, frantically scanning the area before the guards or Wally caught up to me. I dove behind a large pillar before anyone saw me.
"(Y/N)!" Alice whispered in excitement. "Thank goodness you're alright!" Alice and the lady were both hiding behind the pillar as well.
"I might be alright physically but not mentally." I huffed. "I was almost about to die back there!"
Just then, we heard a vehicle approaching.
Our chance came when the driver stopped got out and walked over to a guard. They were talking very fast in a language I couldn't understand. It was now or never. We slowly made our way to the truck, opened the passenger door and slid in. The keys were still in. Alice crept her way to the drivers seat while we sat in the back. Slamming her heavy foot on the accelerator, the truck screamed and jumped into life. I could see the guards running after us, firing their guns at the back of the truck.
The lady shrieked. "Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! We're gonna die!" She covered her head.
"Calm down, ma'am." Alice grit her teeth.
The angel pulled out her own gun then handed it to me to return fire. I gladly took it and even managed to shoot one of the guards in the leg. Looking in front of me I could see two other trucks parked up ahead. I shot the tires so they couldn't drive after us.
"Nice shot!" Alice grinned.
Slamming through the gate, we headed off into the empty road.
