Junior year, here we come...
"Seriously? Scott?" Duncan was confused and disgusted when he walked up to Courtney's locker at the end of the day as he'd always done, except for that short period of time when he was with Gwen.
Courtney slammed her locker shut. "What about him?"
"Are you going out with him? He's a total dirtbag." Duncan followed her down the hallway and out the school doors. Whether they were dating, just friends, or hated each other that day, they always walked home from school together. For old time's sake. "Like, seriously, Court, I heard the dude eats actual dirt."
She rolled her eyes. "Oh my God, Duncan, he doesn't eat dirt."
Duncan shrugged. "I don't know, man. My sources are reliable."
"Oh, fuck you and your sources."
Courtney sped up. Duncan jogged ahead and turned around to face her. "Regardless, he's a sophomore. He can't even take you to prom."
"Why do you care? Are you going to ask me to prom?" Courtney stopped and folded her arms.
Duncan almost tripped. "I-"
"Yeah, that's what I thought," she said, continuing to walk home. "You don't exactly have the best track record when it comes to asking people to dances."
"Are you still on that?" Duncan rejoined her at her side, walking in step with the C.I.T. "It was like three years ago."
"It's not like you've asked me to any dances since then."
"Now, that's not true. I asked you to homecoming freshman year. Anyways, we've always gone as a group with everyone," he pointed out for emphasis.
Courtney growled. "That doesn't mean you just don't ask me!"
Duncan threw his hands up in the air. "Why must you be so uptight all of the time?"
She matched his reaction. "And why must you be such a jerk all of the time?"
Then, they were on each other like two magnets with opposite polarity.
The pair separated to catch their breaths. Duncan smirked. "So, Princess, does that mean you won't be going to prom with Scott?"
"Shut up," she muttered before slamming her mouth against his again.

Courtney sat up and rubbed her head. Shit, what time is it? The sun was setting outside the window, but she wasn't in her room. She looked around at the punk band posters and piles of dirty clothes on the floor. She was in Duncan's room. My parents are going to kill me, she thought, if they're even home. She began to look for her phone when the door opened. Without any hesitation, she ducked under the blanket, praying to God that one of Duncan's family members didn't see her with messy hair and no underwear.
"Relax, Princess, it's me." Duncan closed the door behind him. "My parents are working second shift today."
The tension in Courtney's chest released, and she returned to her upright position in his twin bed. "What happened?" She noticed the flowers in his hand. Green roses. "What are those?"
"Don't worry; they're fake. I know you're allergic." Then, he tore down one of the posters on his wall. There was writing on the back of it. In big black sharpie letters, it said, Will you turn this frog into a prince and come to prom with me, Princess?
Courtney's hands flew to her mouth. She was so elated, and tired, that her eyes started to water. "Duncan..."
"Well," he said nervously, pulling at the skin on the back of his neck. "Will you?"
