You sat there across the table in your black sweater
Well aware that that color has my heart
While the music made you sway
Your pure sight was just taking my breath awayIn a bunch of sixteen, only you had my undivided attention
Stealing moments to watch you from the corner of my eye
So lost that I unintentionally sipped the bitter beer
While you laughed at some conversation with your peerSeems like my existence made no difference to you
Defeated, I get all chatty with the crowd however lingering on this funny thing called hope
Are you going to say something, offer me a pie or a macaroon?
Maybe just a glance, a gesture, anything at all to make my heart swoon?Long gone was the man who secretly held my palm in a previous gathering like this
A feeling so surreal to me back then which I surprisingly craved for tonight
The man who hush hush planned trips, wine tours, and movie marathons
One who was concerned about my every drink or when my feet slipsOnly if I could go back, to pause and savor that moment
Hardly did I know that we would change so drastically
Somehow the honks and traffic lights played the role of background music and crackling light
Sadly now it's just a faint memory, everything about us seemed darker tonightI laugh out loud with the others to hide my tears in a disguise of happiness
Walked around the long table to each one, resisting my feet from turning in your direction
They did a good job because when compared to the heart, the feet are rational
Skipped you for the next person, it might've come off as intentionally unintentionalBack at my original spot, a wand was waved when I note your brows raise as if waiting
That's when I realized the feet were not rational either as they moved to where you stood
With a slight pinch on my arm, you say, "You're so busy all the time"
Honey, how do I tell you, I'm all yours and waiting to make you mineWe mock each other, peers joining in too, enjoying our funny fight
Your hand caressing my back now while I leaned into it with joy breathing in my favorite scent
Suddenly, plans with your new romantic interest emerge, I should've known there was a catch
Things were too good to be true, my world came crashing down, and the pain had no matchI had nothing more to say but to create a distance, beholding that smile with all my might
Palm turning to fists yet not the slightest change in your stance
You still hooked onto that smile and eyes following me while I tried to be agile
Maybe I should've warned you, this isn't funny because my heart is too fragile(To be continued...)
