Earth, the home world of humanity, their destiny to conquer the stars beyond their reach were at hand. Men, women, and children destined to among the stars, into the unknown frontier.
---------------------------
Then everything change when the Punishing Virus Catastrophe happened, originating in our most prestigious laboratories. Mankind's first zero-point energy nuclear reactor gives birth to this new type of virus in its vacuum chambers, and when it escapes, it spreads along the wind currents of Earth's atmosphere following an explosion, the cybernetic pathogen proceeds to kill humans and infect machines, causing them to mindlessly seek to destroy anything with a human consciousness.
Humanity thus sees no other option but to escape into space, where survivors live aboard the space colony Babylonia.
In a few short years the virus wiped out thousands of years of human civilization, forcing us to seek refuge off-world...
But this is not the end for humanity, for they were already given the torch. And because of that, the bright minds aboard Babylonia created a solution for their survival.
Constructs, humans that had been modified into combat cyborgs that are willing to reclaim their lost planet.
Courage, the choice and willingness to confront agony, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. That, was given to those that remain.
And with it, they can rebuild.

Location: Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan.
In the baren wasteland that was once was the country, Kazakhstan; lays the ruins of humanity's first spaceport for orbital and human launches and the largest operational space launch facility. What was once the Golden Age of spaceflight for humanity, was gone in a instant when the Punishing came to these lands. Hundreds of civilian vehicles are seen outside the facility's walls trying to get in, with tanks parked on the opposite side of the entrance. The colony ship that stands as the centerpiece of the area had been one of the last ships attempting to escape from the virus, but failed to launch due to a fuel line explosion.
It's nothing but dust and echoes.
.....
Somewhere along the outskirts of the Cosmodrome lays the once interplanetary defense array, Skyshock. What was supposed to be a defensive military outpost, was ravaged by the Corrupted, but was later deserted.
The amount of dead bodies corrupted from the virus were left amongst the Skyshock Array offer evidence that the endless battle between those stationed here and the Corrupted still rages on.
Amongst the ruins of the Skyshock and aircraft, along with the bodies, lays a single cowl. The cowl was battered and beaten, its visor broken, but lights still flickering. Static noises echo from the cowl, repeating events that once took place here. Soon after, the static dies down as the lights on the cowl begin to dim, leaving only silence.
