It's a good thing most Sapiens are not as observant as they think they are. It would make my job and that of the Department of Relocation very difficult. The store I'd just taken a 'photo' of (more like a 3-D lithograph) would be perfect for a new nexus. Then the bus lurches, and my satchel slips.

"Here" I hear someone say, and I go to take it back from whichever Sapien had the kindness to grab it before some very classified items and two pissed-off furballs were scattered about. And there he stands, as if he'd nonchalantly stepped out of my never-ending nightmare, offering me my precious satchel. It's all I can do to not metamorphose into something else or magic him into oblivion with a well-chosen WORD. But the former would be a violation of the 1944 Treaty, and the latter would bring fatal repercussions. The last WORDS spoken were aimed at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

He has eyes greener than the newest Spring grass on Tara the Blessed Isle. And they're looking at me as I were the most amazing person he's ever seen. His gaze reminds me of Baelena's when she read me on my true-naming day. But the Seer's look wasn't as stimulating as this. He isn't looking at me. He sees me. By leaf and stone, by rain and earth fire, he SEES me.

I know him. I've seen him almost every night, for hundreds of years. And there he is, with that damned smile. I can't move, I'm so surprised. Why now, why here? Hair blue-black like one of Tam Linn's crows. Shoulders as wide as Brann Boru. And his aura scatters a rainbow of colors, one of the rarest there is. Only the Fate Benders have such spirited glows. But it's muted by Shadow, which could only come from the blackest of curses.

I'm Agent Cray Zieh, but call me Cray. I'm capable of wiping out Lich Lords, Undead Demons, and Vile Vampires without blinking. So, what do I do when faced with this handsome hell spawn from my nightmares of the past 500 years? What else?

I run out the closing doors, past the departing people and keep running.
