i quickly pulled on my doc martens, grabbing my small bag as i rushed out of the girls dormitory, still rather tired as i was only woken from my slumber ten minutes ago.

hermione had woken me up at seven in the morning on a saturday, complaining about how if we didn't get our yule ball dresses today, there would be none left. i sighed, shutting the painting behind me to be met with the familiar bushy haired girl, standing with the two boys who she seemed to be ignoring.

"morning larke!" ron grinned, as i smiled back at him. "what are you two coming for anyway? its not like you need your dress robes." hermione asked, furrowing her eyebrows. "jesus hermione, just say you don't want us here and we'll leave.." ron mumbled, the girl shooting him a deathly look as he put his hands up in surrender.

we had arrived not long after, my fingertips red from the freezing cold air as i had forgotten my gloves. "we're going to honeydukes with fred and george then." ron spoke, as we wandered through the cobblestone streets which were covered in snow, the place already rather busy as people walked from shop to shop, probably getting last minute gifts.

i pushed the door open to Madam Malkins, thankfully the small shop was empty, apart from the elderly woman behind the till. her head shot up at the sound of the door chiming, greeting the two of us with a warm smile. "Hello girls, i suppose you are here for your dresses, correct?" she asked, pushing her glasses closer to her face as i smiled, nodding my head.

"what dresses are you looking for?" she asked curiously, as me and hermione exchanged looks. "to be honest, we don't really have the best sense in dresses." hermione giggled quietly, as i nodded. Madam malkins let out a snort, turning on her heel for a split second. the second she turned back around, she was clutching several dresses which she handed to the both of us. "Try on them all, pick which one suits you the best!" she smiled, pulling back the curtains to the changing rooms.

i slipped into one of the changing rooms, pulling the curtain back after me before i slipped out of my several layers.

i sighed, running my hands over my face as i slipped on the last dress from the large pile. it slipped on with ease, instantly hugging at every curve of my body. my jaw practically dropped to the floor as i looked at it in the mirror, my eyes widening.

it was truly beautiful, it was a green silk dress with a slit which trailed up close to my thigh. it showed parts of my cleavage, but not too much. i smiled in content, running my hands down my hip curves as i looked in the mirror. this was the one.

"Nova? are you decent?" hermione asked, snapping me from my trance as i pulled back the curtain, revealing a beautiful pink frilly dress which complimented hermiones features. "you better be getting that one." hermione spoke, slightly blushing at me as i giggled. "same applies to you granger! you look beautiful." i spoke sweetly, as her cheeks went the shade of her dress.

We had settled on buying the two dresses, thanking madam malkins before exiting the shop.

We walked along the cobbled streets, buying extra christmas gifts for one another and our friends before looking for the others.

we soon found them exiting zonko's, fred and george appearing behind them, whispering and laughing to eachother as they pointed at the two younger boys infront of them. "about bloody time you were done." ron sighed, as i threw an arm around him. "did you miss us that much?" i grinned, pulling at his cheeks as he scowled, the twins joining us as we walked back to hogwarts.

"hey nova." george spoke, throwing an arm around my shoulder as i smiled lightly up at the ginger boy. "hey george, what did you get from zonko's?" i asked curiously, peering into the bag. "i got some hiccoughs, nose - biting teacups and dungbombs." he winked, as i scrunched up my nose. "the dungbombs reek, i havent forgotten whenever you and fred put one in my room." i shook my head, as a grin displayed onto his quite red face.

"excited for your date with diggory?" george asked, as i sighed. "its not a date! we're simply going as best friends, platonic with a capital P!" i exaggerated, swearing i heard a scoff coming from fred. i turned my head to be met with his brown eyes boring into mine, giving me a bitter look. furrowing my eyebrows, i turned back around, giving my attention to george.

"Why's he all tensed up?" i whispered quietly, as george shrugged, giving his brother a confused look. "he's been off since yesterday, probably jealous of you and cedric." he laughed, as i gave the boy a deadpan look. "don't be stupid." i replied, sneakily taking one of ron's toffees.

"says the one completely oblivious.." he murmured, as i shrugged it off, diverting my attention to ron's sweets which were quite nice.

the six of us walked back to hogwarts, fred looking absent amongst the group. i wanted to know what was going on and why he had such a bitter look on his face.

"fred, what's wrong?" i asked curiously, walking up to him as he didn't even bother to look down at me. "nothing's wrong nova." he shrugged, shoving his hands in his pockets as i scoffed. "clearly there is, you've been in a shitty mood with everyone today." i replied, as he finally turned to look at me, giving me a slight smirk. "theres nothing wrong, like i just said. why don't you go and prepare for the yule ball, im sure your date is over the hills to go with you." he spoke, as he walked inside the castle, a smirk tugging at my lips.

fred was jealous.
