LAIA POV

OMG, Hogwarts is absolutely marvelous. There are no words to describe the beauty of the castle; it feels alive, like home. The castle itself gives a homely feeling, just like when Mum ruffled my hair or when I fell onto Remus's lap. I love Hogwarts, but I think everyone hates me here, or mostly avoids me, because of my dear Gramps. I don't know what to do. After the sorting and feast, I was too tired to notice that everyone seemed disappointed that I was sorted into Gryffindor instead of Slytherin. It feels like they're afraid of me.

That night, as soon as I reached the Gryffindor girls' dorm, I drifted off.

The next morning, I woke up early, thanks to Hermione. Since it was our first day, we needed to familiarize ourselves with Hogwarts. We decided to visit the library before attending our first class. Harry and Ron woke up and reached the common room, their faces bright with excitement about their first day at Hogwarts. I figured they could take care of each other, so I left them and informed them I was off to the library with Hermione.

Merlin's beard, the library is amazing! If I tried to describe it, you'd probably say, "Oh, Percy, are you acting crazy? You're out of character. Maybe it's time you paid a visit to a psychiatric clinic." But believe me, it's that magnificent. I searched for "Hogwarts: The History". You might think, "Hey Percy, don't be offensive, did you forget about your dyslexia and ADHD? How will you read the book?" Not to worry. Remus taught me how to translate the book into Greek. I can read Greek without difficulty. I even got special permission to write homework and exams in Greek, which are then translated into English for verification. So, dyslexia isn't a problem now. As for ADHD, this place is a land of magic; we can learn magic from books. Isn't that everyone's dream? Besides, I wanted to accompany Hermione to ensure she didn't feel left out. After finding my book, I searched for Hermione and finally found her. I reached out to her, and she said she wanted to spend the remaining time before class in the library. I thought I would accompany Harry and Ron to our first class. She told me she could manage and asked me to leave. I made sure for a second time and left.

But when I left the library, I regretted it. I got lost in this huge castle, and no one helped me. When I asked for help, they ignored me as if I were a statue, though they might consider the statue instead of me. I didn't know where to go or what to do with these moving stairs. Oops! I got lost! What am I going to do? I'm going to miss my first day at Hogwarts. Mum and Remus will be disappointed and worried. Professor Dumbledore might think I can't find my way to class and expel me. Yes, I'm going to be expelled from another school without even attending a day, not just any school but Hogwarts. New record, right? Fantastic... My thoughts were interrupted by a voice.

"May I help you?"

I turned around to meet the owner of the voice. He was an extremely handsome boy with bright grey eyes and brown hair, maybe thirteen or fourteen. He was well-built, sort of attractive. Why was he asking me? Maybe he didn't know about my relationship with my Gramps. So my best reply was,

"Umm..."

He just chuckled and said, "Hey, not to worry. You're a first-year, so it's completely normal to be lost. You know what? I still get lost sometimes. This castle is a mystery, but you'll get used to it. By the way, I'm Cedric Diggory, a third-year in Hufflepuff."

I smiled and replied, "I'm Laia Black, a first-year in Gryffindor. But I think you already know that, considering everyone's disappointment."

This caused him to laugh. "Oh, you think I'm disappointed? I personally think the Sorting Hat always places everyone in the correct house."

"Oh, you think I'm judgmental? I'm the one who ignored a girl, not helping her find her way to class just because she is the granddaughter of some evil wizard she didn't even know existed until a few days ago."

He genuinely felt sorry after hearing the news, which made me kind of sad too. Maybe I shouldn't have said any of that. Oops! What have I done? He replied, "It's not good to be judgmental, you know. I'm really sorry about their behavior. Maybe they need time to adjust to this and get along with it. Just don't worry. Everyone will find their own place at Hogwarts. May I ask you again? Can I have the honor of helping you reach your first class, Ms. Laia Black?"

"Sure, Mr. Cedric Diggory. By the way, thank you for your help and a bit of advice."

"Oh, sure, I take this honor. And thank you for this proudest moment of my life. You know, I can tell my grandchildren that I was the one who led the great Laia Black to her first class."

We laughed about the dramatic scene we caused while making our way to class.

"Oh yeah, thank you! I can announce this news in the Daily Prophet: the great genius, intelligent Cedric Diggory, is sparing time for a pity little first-year girl."

We laughed over our silly, dramatic thank-you jokes until we reached my class. Then he said, "Thank you for your valuable time, Laia. I think we've reached your class. All the best and..."

"Thank you again... and what?"

"I think I want to hear about your first day. Shall we meet near the Black Lake after class? If you don't mind. Oh, don't take it the wrong way. Maybe I'll have another chance to help by assisting you with lessons, since I assume you're left-handed."

"Yes, I'm left-handed. But does that make it difficult in lessons?"

"Yeah, I mean, it's a bit different in some wand movements, but I can help. I'm also left-handed, only if you want."

"Oh, thank you for the offer. I'm really grateful. I mean it. I'll meet you after class, then. See you soon. Have a nice day."

"Yeah, we will. All the best. Have a good term."

With that, he left. That evening, he helped with lessons, just as he promised. Not only that evening, but it became a regular habit. After classes, we met near the Black Lake, where no one knew our secret place. We talked about our day, and he helped me with lessons. Then we went back to the castle and joined our friends. As far as I know, nobody noticed our secret friendship. I'm really grateful for his help or just his company. He's one of those who doesn't care about family, who sees who I am. Believe me, for that. He thinks I'm a true Gryffindor, even convincing me to believe it. I don't know what I'll do if any of my friends don't trust or support me. Truly, I don't want to think about it. Here at Hogwarts, I finally made friends, even though neither my Mum nor Remus has sent me any letters yet. I'm happy now. Hagrid has invited me for tea after class with Harry. We are going to meet our Potions master, which reminds me, Harry really has to talk to me about our welcome feast.
