Charlie's POV

My and Nick's relationship was finally in a good place when I joined him at Uni. We lived together and we felt like all's right in the world, until it wasn't. We found our new people, hobbies, passions and well... there just wasn't a place for us in this new world. We were both heartbroken, but we knew we couldn't keep pretending that we were happy in this relationship. So one night after finals, we sat down and we simply broke up.

***Flashback***

'I can't believe you're so unsupportive!' I screamed angrily

'Of what? Your wishful thinking? Come on Charlie. You need a normal job and education! Being a struggling musician is not something I want to deal with' argued Nick, very frustrated

'Wow' I said in shock

'I know it's harsh, but it's the truth' he said heavily as he ran his hand through his beautiful hair

'You think you'll go far with rugby?' I scoffed angrily

'I quit actually' he said quietly

That had me shocked. He did what? That was his life and how he got into Uni. Why on earth did he quit?

'You did what?' I yelled in disbelief

'There's no future there' he said with a shrug

'You're not the person I fell in love with' I said through tears

'Ditto' he said a tad angrily

'Maybe we shouldn't continue this' he said after a moment of silence

'What?' I asked shocked

'I think we should break up. We've clearly grown apart... I don't want to hate you Charlie, but I know that if we don't go out separate way that I will' he said sadly

'Fine. Let's break up' I said in disbelief

'Yeah. It's been over for a while' said Nick sadly

***End of the flashback***

Well, it wasn't simple. We cried and we comforted each other. We then slept one last time together and when I woke up the next morning, Nick was gone. He moved out a week later, leaving me alone in our flat.

I couldn't afford to live here alone nor was I comfortable being alone since my thoughts were getting dark.

I ran into Tao and Elle that same week and it turned out they needed a new place, so we decided to get a new flat together. It was an adjustment, but at least I wasn't alone.

Not long after, I showed Tao my songs and he was shocked. My old friends knew I could sing and I played the guitar quite well, but I never invited them to any of my gigs. It was only me and Alex, but a week later I asked Tao to join the band and the rest is history.

Years have passed since I last saw Nick. Four to be exact. He never left my mind, though. I didn't want to admit it to anyone, but all the songs that I wrote were about him. I guess Tao figured that some might be about Nick, but he never said anything or questioned me. I was very thankful for that.
