Exiting the dining room you followed the hallway back to the lounge area, you stopped abruptly in the doorway when you heard raised voices.
"Seriously Stella nothing is going on between Alexia and I." It was Jenni's voice.
You heard a muffled voice speaking before Jenni spoke again.
"That was years ago, I know I should have told you straight away but it doesn't change anything."
The voices were coming closer to the opening, you moved back to hide yourself from view.
"You are always room mates, you are always out together and don't think I haven't seen the way you are with one another on the pitch, you think I am stupid Jenni!" Stella's voice was rising higher in anger.
You couldn't make out what the other voices were now saying but the door flew open revealing a distraught Stella.
She practically stalked her way over to you.
"Look, you seem like a nice girl. Don't let them fuck around with you as well. You don't want to get involved in whatever it is between them two." She said tearfully before fleeing the apartment.
You were shocked, you pushed through the door ready to console Jenni only to see her in Alexia's arms.
They didn't see you, Alexia was stroking her hair, Jenni's face was buried in Alexia's neck.
"It's ok Jenni I got you." She said softly. Jenni pulled back, looking in Alexia's eyes before leaning in and kissing the shorter woman.
You didn't stay to witness anymore.
Returning to the hallway you grabbed your coat from the hook and quietly shut the front door behind you.Meanwhile
"What the fuck Jenni." Alexia cursed her friend pushing her away.
Jenni had her hands on her head, she started pacing the room.
"I don't know Ale I'm sorry, I just, everyone always thinks we are together and I mean why not it would be easier." She reasoned.
"Wow fuck you Jenni. 1. I do not see you like that anymore and 2. I am not 'the easier option' and 3. You know damn well I like somebody else. Somebody who is in the next damn room!"
Jenni stopped pacing .
"Oh god Alexia I am sorry. Shit I am so sorry." She said putting her face in her hands she started to cry again.
"Hey what's happened?" Lieke asked entering the room. Concerned at seeing Jenni so upset.
Alexia encouraged her friend to sit down on the couch.
"Stella broke up with her."
Lieke immediately sat down and threw her arms around Jenni.
"Oh why Jenni?"
Jenni wiped her eyes trying to stop the tears.
"She thinks I am cheating on her with Alexia." Jenni explained.
Alexia avoided eye contact with her.
Lieke softly chuckled.
"Well surely y/n put change to that." Lieke said, looking around for her friend.
"Where is y/n?" She asked.
"Isn't she in with the others?" Alexia asked concerned.
Lieke stood up, walking to the doorway.
"No she came after you to make sure you were ok Ale." Lieke said entering the hallway with Alexia and Jenni following her.
Alexia stopped, Jenni bumping in to the back of her. She realised that if you had followed her you may have seen or heard some things.
Lieke went to the bathroom door and tapped on it.
"Y/nn are you in there?"
Alexia however moved to the front door, she looked through the coats and saw that yours was gone.
She spun on her heel, looking directly at Jenni.
Jenni grabbed Alexia's coat for her.
"Come on she couldn't have got far."
"Far?" Lieke asked approaching them.
"Why would y/n leave?" She asked concerned for her friend.
"After Stella left, I may have kissed Ale." Jenni explained. "And y/n may have seen it I don't know."
"For fuck sake Jenni!" Lieke shrieked loudly enough for the girls to come out of the dining room. "You ask for my help in setting them up and then do this." She grabbed her coat.
"And you!" She spun round confronting Alexia.
"I stopped her Lieke, I like y/n ok, I really like y/n." She said getting upset.
"Then come on, my best friend is out there in a unknown city at night!" Lieke opened the front door and stormed off, Alexia quickly followed after her.
Jenni stood in the hallway. She had not only ruined her own relationship but potentially her best friends as well. She stepped back, leaning against a wall, she hiccuped before sliding down the wall and sitting on the floor. You signed, hanging you coat up in the hallway of your own apartment. You shouldn't have left without saying goodbye to at least Lieke. You pulled your phone out of your pocket, noting you already had four missed calls from your best friend.
As you debated on calling her back or just texting her, she rang again.
"Y/n thank God, where are you." Liekes anxious voice came through the speaker.
"I'm at home." You started to say but she cut the call off. You frowned, taking off your shoes all you wanted to do was lay on the couch and watch shit tv.
You moved towards the lounge but before you could get far the intercom for the main front door downstairs rung.
You picked up the receiver not bothering to check the small screen that showed footage of the outside, if you had you would have noticed that Lieke wasn't alone.
You put the door on the latch and entered the kitchen to grab a bottle of water from the fridge.
"Y/n!" Lieke's voiced shouted out as she entered your home searching for you.
You took a deep breath and stepped out of the kitchen and into the hallway.
Your stomach dropped. Instead of Lieke you came face to face with Alexia.
She went to open her mouth to say something but Lieke brushed past her, capturing you in a bone crushing hug.
"Don't ever do that again."
You glanced at Alexia from over your friends shoulder, you pulled back from Lieke.
"I'm sorry, I had a headache I just needed to get home." You lied.
Lieke pushed your shoulder.
"Fuck off y/n I know what happened." She replied catching you in your lie.
Alexia stepped forward.
"Y/n it honestly isn't how it looked."
"Oh and how did it look Alexia?" You asked, staring the older woman down.
Alexia blushed. "Jenni was upset, she was confused, honestly y/n I pushed her away as soon as it started."
You shook your head.
"Look Alexia, who you do and don't kiss is none of my business. Stella's right, I don't want to get involved with whatever it is you two have going on." You stated calmly feeling Lieke's eyes on you.
"Y/n." Lieke said softly touching your shoulder.
"You spoke to Stella?" Alexia asked in shock.
"Look Alexia, I'm sorry but I actually really do have a headache now so if you wouldn't mind?" You gestured with your hands towards the door.
"Y/n." Lieke tried again.
"Is that really what you want y/n?" Alexia asked her voice thick with emotion.
You hesitated. You felt your eyes gloss over but you were determined not to cry over yet another footballer.
"It is." You said with a finality to your voice.
Alexia's shoulders sagged and she nodded, her own eyes swimming with unspilt tears. Turning she walked the few steps to your front door, she glanced back as she opened it, hopeful you'd change your mind but you had already turned away and retreated back into the kitchen."Y/n." Lieke stood in the doorway behind you as you unscrewed the lid to the bottle of water you had grabbed earlier.
"It's fine Lieke." You assured her taking a swig from the bottle.
"If it's fine then why are you upset?" She argued.
You signed heavily, leaning against the countertop.
"It's better to find out now then a few months or whatever down the line right." You tried to sound upbeat but she was your best friend, she knew you.
"She's not with Jenni y/n." Lieke stood in front of you, tucking a stray hair behind your ear.
You tried to put the lid back on top of the bottle but it just wouldn't go on properly.
"Same as Dzenifer wasn't with Sarah Bouhaddi?" You shouted at Lieke, you gave up with the bottle and launched it across the kitchen. It hit a cupboard, bounced off a countertop and landed on the floor spilling its contents.
Lieke held on to you as you broke down, finally releasing all the pent up emotions you had held locked away since you had found out about the affair.
You sobbed in to her shoulder, all the pain and anguish tumbling out of you.
It was like a shaken bottle of champagne after the cork has been popped.
You had asked Dzenifer if something was going on with Sarah, you'd given her an out. She had denied it. You'd been together three years. She had made you feel like you were being a jealous girlfriend.
Then you had flown into France for a surprise visit and found them together. In the kitchen of all places, Dzenifer hadn't seen you at first, she had been too busy eating out Bouhaddi who sat on the kitchen island.
"I'm sorry, I should have seen you weren't ready y/nn." Lieke rubbed circles on your back.
