Alan and Angelina were sitting beneath the bleachers at school. To say lunch break was a busy time would be a heavy understatement- so to avoid the crowds the two would claim this spot often. Her lunch packed away in a brown paper bag. Angelina bought double the food she'd be able to eat and gave it to her friend every day, and though he scolded her for it- he wouldn't be able to eat lunch otherwise. His family was in a hefty amount of debt, so any edible food was like a banquet to him. Today was Monday.. leftover day- her favourite.

"What?" she burst out laughing, eyes crinkling at the sides.

"It's true" Alan laughed with her, "I swear it" he held his pinkie finger out to her, she stared at it for a moment before looking back at her friend.

"You're such a liar" she shook her head at him, pushing his pinkie away. "There is absolutely no way that you're going out with Chrissy Cunnigham" The Chrissy Cunnigham in question being the blonde princess of Hawkins High.. as well as being the so-called love of Alan's life since freshman year.

Angelina had nothing against Chrissy, she seemed really sweet, but Alan was obsessed with her- meaning Angelina had to sit and listen to every word he said about her.. every single day.. without fail. At this point, you were pretty sure he knew more about Chrissy than Chrissy knew about herself.

"It sounds crazy, but I'm not lying" he smiled brightly, twiddling with his plastic fork. Seemingly seeing nothing at all odd with this random 'date' he had.

Alan had never spoken one word to Chrissy before. He talked about her to Angelina- many times. But he'd never actually had a conversation with her before.

"Doesn't she have a boyfriend?" Angelina's eyebrow rose.

Alan made a pfft sound, but his eyes wandered around, avoiding hers.

"That dude? Nah" he denied.

"And you're sure this is like- an actual date?" emphasising the word 'date'.

"I mean ... yeah" he nodded slowly, drawing out his words.

"That didn't sound very convincing Alan" she grimaced, eating another mouthful of leftover lasagne to hide another smile.

"It's a.. study date- same thing!" he quickly shook his head, like he was trying to shake off his best friends doubt.

"Not the same thing!" she gasped, giggling.

"What?!" he scoffed.

She sighed heavily, putting down her food and reaching for his hands.

"Alan.. did she ask you to.. tutor her?" She spoke in a grave voice, a sympathetic smile coating her lips.

"Yeah" his eyebrows drew together in confusion, looking at her weirdly.

"Alan.." she shook her head at him slowly, pulling her hands away.

He quickly tried to redeem himself. "But- when she was walking away I called out, 'It's a date'" He used his hands to imitate just what he looked like in the moment, Angelina couldn't help the streak of second hand embarrassment soaring through her.

"Oh my god" Angelina whispered to herself, hands coming up to her face and shielding it from his view. Not that Alan was looking at her- he was too immersed in his story.

"And- she laughed! Not in a mean way though, it was.." he paused for a moment, looking for the right words. "It was.. beautiful" the dazed look in his eyes returned, like it would whenever he spoke about Chrissy.
