I tried to steady my breathing, inhaling and exhaling, attempting to slow my ever increasing heart rate. I don't really know what I expected to see when the doors opened. I let my imagination get the best of me as I invisioned walking straight into a scene from CSI. My pulse drummed in my ears as I also was nervous for my confrontation with Paul.

Don't get me wrong, Paul is a great guy. I have been around long enough now to know his teasing, and mild temperment. I have also been around long enough for him to realize I would not take "no" for an answer. Surely he knew I would defy his word and come on my own accord?

*Ding* the elevator doors slowly shuddered open. I blinked back my surprise, I was not looking at a CSI lab, but rather at a seemingly ordinary hotel lobby. Other than a few police in uniforms milling aroung, nothing seemed different.

I started to take my first step out, but a palm the size of my face appeared out of no-where blocking my path.

"No civilians beyond this point. Authorized personel only miss." My eyes travelled from the palm up the bury build of the man infront of my. He brandished a badge stating he was "security" and his cold, grey gaze told me he didnt play games.

"Oh... Well, I-" I said fumbling for  words. What was I supposed to say, My name is Carly, I came here  against Pauls will, and my own better judgement. Please let me through.

"She's with me officer." A gruff accent said. Paul walked briskly into view nodded at the officer. took my shoulder and steered me in the direction of what appeared to be a linen closet.

Here we go, I thought.

Once inside Paul closed the door and flicked on the only single bare bulb in the small space. Confirming my suspicions, we were in a linen closet.

He leaned against a shelf containing crisp, white sheets. He folded his arms across his chest and looked at me. His gaze wasn't angry, but that didn't stop my hands from becoming slick with nervous sweat. Paul never got angry, and I couldn't stand the thought of him being disappointed with me.

He raised his eyebrow, waiting. All I could muster was a shrug.

"I knew it was only a matter of time." He said to my surprise. He opened his arms and I wasted no time accepting the hug. "There, there sweetheart." He said comforting me.

I took a step back, relieved I wasn't on his bad side. I stood, finally taking in his tired features. His eyes had dark circles around them, and his whole stance sagged with exhaustion.

"I'm sorry Paul. I couldn't stay away. I mean some part of you must have realized I wouldn't listen..."

"I knew from the second Louis left for the airport just a tad to early that you two were up to something. I only told you to stay away for your own safety Carly, but I guess I'm glad you're here. We need to stick togther during hard times." He placed his hand on my shoulder and gave it a reasuring sqeeze. "Come on there's someone I would like you to meet."

I followed him out of the small linen closet and towards a room marked "Floor 7 Conference Room." I noticed a small out of place security camera newly installed above the door. Inside the room was buzzing with people, it was an ordinary hotel conference room - turned crime scene investigation lab. It was dark, there were computers, and monitors installed in the make-shift headquarters. Paul led me through the tangle of wires and people in uniforms to a man in a dark suit. He appeared to be the one running this whole show.

"Carly, meet detective Ramsay he's with the L.A police force."

"How do you do?" He asked smoothly. "We've been expecting you."

I smiled and nodded, taking his hand. He looked like a stereotypical dective. Dark suit, dark hair, shiny badge.

"I suppose you have some questions?" He asked gesturing for me to take a seat at a small round table.

We all sat around the small table. Paul to my left, the detective in front of me.

"Can somebody please tell me what is going on here?" I blurted out. "I've been worried sick, no-one will answer me.... is Harry ok? Where is he? Why did they do this! Please tell me you have some le-"

Detective Ramsay stopped me short, placing his hand on my arm giving me a sympathetic look.

"Let me explain Miss. Grey. We don't know exactly who we are dealing with here, we suspect it is gang activity. Nothing against Harry, but we guess they are hoping to get a hefty ransom. They were smart enough to plan their attack without being seen and left virtually no trace of their visit. This hotel is old, no surveillance cameras are installed in the side of the building the entered. They came in through an old fire escape stair-well and used a maids key to enter the room Harry was in. The only thing they left behind was this cell phone." He held up a small, silver, ancient looking flip phone. "We believe they left this behind on purpose. We can't trace any locations, numbers, or past calls from it. Basically we are waiting for them to contact us. We do not know how far these people are willing to go, or what they are capable of-"

"Clearly they are capable of kid-napping" I interjected.

"Yes. But Miss. Grey what I am trying to say is, we are preparing ourselves for the worst."

My heart dropped, and ice ran through my veins. "T-the worst?" My voice broke.

"Carly," Paul took my hand as Detective Ramsay continued. "We are doing everything in our power to get Harry back safetly. But there is a chance circumstances may change, these people don't play games."

In other words, they were telling me I may never see my boyfriend again. Alive that is.
