I was so elated when I made it through. I couldn't believe it happened. It was like I was living in a dream, but it has all been taken away almost as fast as it's been given to me. It's so disheartening. Should I audition again next year? Should I just finish high school and go off to college? I don't know, but right now I'm sitting here crying like a baby. Why do they have us sitting around? Why do they have to drag this out? And, who is that tapping on my shoulder?

Normani: Hey. I saw you looking really down. Are you okay?

Lauren: Not really, but I'll live. Thanks for asking. You were eliminated too, weren't you?

Normani: Yeah.

Lauren: You're stronger than I am. You aren't crying like it's the end of the world.

Normani: Oh, believe me. I cried, but I know there are always other opportunities.

Lauren: You're right. We're both young and have plenty of time. We should enjoy being kids and going to prom and stuff.

Normani: Yeah. I'm looking forward to that. You have very pretty eyes, by the way.

Lauren: Wow. Thank you. I was pretty sure I looked a mess right now.

Normani: You do, but your eyes are still pretty. (chuckles)

Lauren: I should be offended, but I like your brutal honesty. (smiles)

Normani: I try to be more careful with my words, but it's a lost cause.

Lauren: I totally understand. I have the same problem.

Normani: Well, my mother is probably looking for me. How about we exchange numbers?

Lauren: Sure. I didn't get your name, by the way.

Normani: Normani. What's yours?

Lauren: That's pretty. I'm Lauren.

Normani: Thank you.

We exchanged numbers, and Normani walked back to where she came from. That was nice of her to come over and comfort me. I don't know where she's from, but I hope we stay in touch. She was so cute and poised.
