The frightened look on the man's face showed the terror of someone who literally feared for his life. On the other hand, the look on the woman's face who was standing in front of him, holding what seemed to be the drawer of a cash register, was twinkling and somehow unsettling. She had a fetish for creative ways of scaring people. In other circumstances, someone with a drawer wouldn't look that threatening, but this is Villanelle we are talking about. She had her unusual ways of not-so-clean-and-neat, but successful nonetheless.
The peculiar exchange was having place in a clothes shop right next to Tower Bridge. Just some minutes before, Villanelle bursted in, her face serious like someone who wanted to get things done fast and approached the man behind the counter, took the drawer and shoveled the unfortunate seller into the back of the shop. With his back pressed against the wall, he was begging and pleading. He hoped for some buyer to enter, but he was unlucky, it was that time of the day when the area wasn't trafficked with visitors anymore. She was smart. She wouldn't go there in a time where people could witness the scene.
"Be a good boy and look for the surveillance footage from two months ago" she said with cold, but flaming eyes. "You don't want this drawer to merge with your skull" her Russian accent was replaced by an Irish one and she was covering her long blond hair.
"I don't know if it's still there" said the man who was becoming more and more distressed.
"Then go look?" she said raising both her eyebrows. "Lock the shop first" she demanded.
The man obliged and moved away from the wall, defeated, and started making his way towards the door to lock it. The blond woman followed every step attentively.***
"Where the hell were you?" Eve asked when Villanelle pushed herself into the apartment.
"I had to kill someone" she replied expressionless.
"What?!" the question came out as a shriek.
"I'm kidding" she smiled mischievously. "I went doing researches on site"
"What do you mean researches? Where?"
Villanelle only raised her hand, she was holding a pen-drive. "I asked around for some footage near the area they shot me. The only good spot I could find was a little clothes shop. The CCTV seems to cover pretty much the place we were at. Maybe we can find something in the video"
"What did you do to the person that gave you that?"
"I helped him count his daily earnings" she had to suppress a smile as she thought about the man that was now in his shop with a cash register drawer tied around his head with tape. Eve didn't need to ask further questions and just rolled her eyes.
They spent hours trying to spot something that could put some clarity to the events of that night. But it seemed that they were in a cul-de-sac until something caught Villanelle's eye.
"Wait!" she uttered, making Eve jump. "Go back just a little bit" she said not taking her eyes off the monitor of Eve's laptop.
The brunette tried to reach the frame Villanelle was talking about, but it was a thing that only an expert in weaponry could spot. "Let me" the blond said, brushing her hand on the other woman's, sending sparks all over. "Look" she finally found the small evidence.
"What?" asked Eve, confused.
"Do you see that little flare on the bridge?" she said pointing it with her index finger somewhere on the beam of the bridge.
Eve just looked at it, silently asking her to explain.
"That happens when light hits the glass of the scope of a weapon"
"So they shot you from there" then she paused. "But who?"
"Yeah, that's hard to tell" the footage was too dark. And even though they made a lot of improvements when it comes to the electronic field, somehow CCTV image quality still sucks. They couldn't even make out a silhouette. Nothing.
"We literally have nothing"
Villanelle just leaned back on the couch and let out a frustrated growl. The Russian woman fell asleep right after, out of frustration. Eve, on the other hand, kept looking at the footage, but knowing that it wouldn't led her anywhere other than a small, insignificant flare in the dark, closed the laptop and sighing, held her head with both hands.
She chuckled as she heard a little snoring sound coming from the woman laying on the couch. The warmth coming from Villanelle's thigh was radiating through her pants, and shifted on her lower back. As she turned around she was met by two burning eyes staring back at her. Villanelle wasn't asleep anymore, as a matter of fact she was widely awake. And Eve realized it soon when she found herself pinned on the couch, with the woman laying on top of her. She couldn't recall how it happened, for all was too fast. And fast was the walk to the bed, in between kisses and clothes pulling.
There hadn't been much physical action between the two women since Villanelle woke up in the hospital. They shared some kisses every now and then, but it was like they were afraid to pursue something that some months before seemed to be so natural, but that eventually was taken from them so quickly.
They didn't speak, no words were needed. Only hungry glances and the anticipation of finally feel each other's body. It was new for Eve, but it was new for Villanelle as well. She used to use sex to lure her prays in. Just another way of enjoying the power she had on her victims. Other times, she just did it out of boredom. Though what came after was her usual feeling of boredom that seemed to hunt her whenever she wasn't asked for a new assassination.
She was on top of Eve and enjoyed the moaning sounds that left the woman's mouth as she thrusted in and out in a steady and constant pace. It didn't feel mechanic and unnatural, it made her feel like wanting to burst. She groaned when her shoulder started to hurt; indeed, the wounds still bothered her every now and then, the heat of the moment made her forget about it.
"Wait" Eve whispered, looking at her hungrily, but with that slumberous glance of someone who's really close to the climax.
Villanelle glanced at her, eventually letting Eve roll on top of her. And she went stiff. Her limbs stuck, she only stared at her with a puzzled look as if she forgot what they were doing. That was new too. She looked a little bit set off, for losing control wasn't really her thing. Not even then.
"Relax" Eve said, as she started grinding against her. She smiled as she felt Villanelle relax beneath her, and the hands on her back. As on cue Eve started moving faster and with more pressure, moaning in Villanelle's mouth as they both started to devour each other in a kiss that spoke a million of words. Then they parted and with their forehead pressed together, they kept staring at each other.
"Let it go" Eve said, it was almost a plead.
Villanelle seemed mesmerized, scared, shocked, confused. Starting to approach the realm of feelings was a thing; like when she started doubting the fact that she could change. But all those things together? It was surreal how being there with Eve taught her every little emotion, one after the other. And as all those sensations came crushing down on her, what followed was an incredible sense of belonging.
