A Sputtering Breeze

Bass has challenged me rather spontaneously.

"Let's Duel!"

Crowds are gathering to see the commotion.

"Wait a minute. I don't have a reason to fight you though."

"Don't... Don't screw around! You hurt my brother!"

His reasoning is understandable, but flimsy.

"So, you're attacking me because I put Ted at risk?"

"That's right!"

"You said that you were watching us when I swept Ted's leg. Why did you intervene after Ted fell instead of the moment that I swept his leg?"

"Well..."

"Also, we've been doing this for days. As his brother you should've known we were doing this. Why didn't you intervene then?"

"I-I already spoke to Ted about it."

"And you still let him. But most importantly, your brother is hurt right now. How does dueling me take priority over his health?"

"I already healed what you caused... enough of this. You've made a fool out of a noble!"

It seems that he refuses to accept that he used this opportunity to challenge me...

"Understood. I'll accept the duel."

I could at least learn how well this world's nobles can fight. I should try to finish this battle quickly without using much flashy magic, the crowd will not pay much attention to me.

"Whoever forces their opponent to declare 'I give up' first shall win. Since I'm fighting a magicless lady, as a handicap..."

"Got it, let's finish this quickly, no handicap needed."

"What?! What the hell are you... how far do you intend to insult me... fine."

Bass readies his attack.

"You shall regret insulting me for the rest of your life!"

"Wind Effigy!"

A gust of wind is slashed at me. I jump to avoid it. The power itself is mediocre but his conjuration speed is too fast, likely coming from that sword.

"Hmph that reaction... perhaps this is the first time you've seen a regalia? Good grief how ignorant of you..."

He then begins going on explaining what a regalia is while insulting me whenever he can: A mechanism that activates when magic is poured into it. Aren't we supposed to be dueling? At any point, I could've crossed the gap between us and disarmed him, rendering him deprived of his method of attack.

"...thanks to this word, I am overwhelmingly fast..."

Even he telegraphs his attacks.

"...When it comes to conjuring my magic!"

He slashes at me again, only for me to block it with my hand.

"My... my magic... with bare hands?!"

"Was that magic? I thought it was a flying balloon."

"You inferior! How dare you!"

Bass tries attacking again.

I believe that I've had enough of Bass' lesson. I would like to use flashy magic against him... but I don't want to draw attention to myself. But at the same time, I don't want to prolong this battle. This commotion however... could work in my favor. I just need to stall.

Bass slashes. I lean left.

Bass slashes. I lean right.

Bass lunges in a full thrust with the wind. I sidestep and he crashes into a wall.
