"Thanks for joining me you guys," I began as I stood in front of Lela's door. She smiled at me as her light brown hair curled around her.

"No problem Annabelle," She began as she hugged me, then Trinity.

"So, tomorrow before the ball want to get ready together?" She asked us excitedly.

"Sure! That way we can see our costumes before anyone else" Trinity said giddily, and I grinned.

"And our maids could have their own little party in one of our rooms," I added enthusiastically.

"Yeah! God, I'm so excited I don't think I'll be able to sleep!" Lela joked, before wishing us goodnight and disappearing off into her room.

Me and Trinity walked in comfortable silence as we reached each others rooms. It seemed as if anything we had to say, would have to wait till tomorrow.

"So, I'll see you tomorrow?"Trinity asked me as I reached the door of my room.

"Yeah," I said, lost in thought. Trinity just nodded, muttering a soft "Goodnight." before yawning and closing the door of her room.

I just stood in front of my door, not being able to move. Dozens of unanswered questions still lingered in my head, and one specifically stood out the most.

I need to talk to my mom.

Unhappily, I shoved the thought back, and went inside my room. It was empty, which made me slightly pleased to know that my maids left early like they're asked to. They deserve the rest. I took off my heels, makeup, and dress. Then putting on a pair of pyjama bottoms and top, I wiggled myself into bed. Maybe I'd finally get some rest.

But I heard a knock. And a door opening. Then closing.

Jason. I immediately felt the excitement coming back.

As I sat up, I could hear his echoing footsteps approaching me, until I felt his arms hugging me tightly. I snuggled my head in his neck, and hugged him back.

It felt as if we hadn't talked in forever. I missed him.

"Hi," I whispered.

"I was so worried you know," He said hurriedly. I rolled my eyes and tried to suppress the smile that was forming on my lips.

"I know, but I'm fine." I reassured him softly, but his eyes didn't meet mine. They just looked to the floor.

"You looked like you were going to break at any second," He began, his voice shaking.

I didn't say anything.

"I was scared that you were going to-"

"Don't. Please. I know it looked scary but I'm fine, really." I interrupted him, and his eyes looked at mine. They were so blue, and bright. They stood out against everything. I fumbled with his collar.

"Seriously Jay, if anything I should be the one worrying. You could get killed by those, rebels." I said, my voice shaking with disgust at even mentioning their name.

"I'm not going to get killed by the rebels."

"How do you know for sure? One of them could easily get a gun and-"

"Trust, me." He began, and he took my hands.

"I'm not going to get killed by the rebels, you know how I know? Because I'm fast," He began, and took my hand and pulled me off of the bed, spinning me around.

"I'm brave," He said in a deep voice, and I laughed as he held me close.

"I'm strong," I squeaked as he lifted me up, his hands tickling my waist.
