" Trinity? " I breathed out, worry and shock layered in my voice. She looked at me expectantly, arms crossed and all.
" I can't believe you " She said harshly. I could already feel my breakfast coming back up.
" I- No it's just- I can- " " You can what? Explain? There's nothing to it. " She said and looked disappointed at me.
And that was it.
The tears were spilling before I could even acknowledge them. Suddenly Trinity's face was filled with hurt and worry.
" I'm sorry " I said, tears blocking my vision. " I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry " I repeated again and Trinity hugged me.
" There's nothing to be sorry about " She said, but the tears didn't stop. " In fact, I should be the one apologizing. God, I'm such a hypocrite " She mumbled and I looked up at her.
" Why? " I sniffled.
" Because, I kind of, maybe sort of, like another person as well " She said quickly.
" Really? Who? " I asked her and she looked at me.
" My guard, Sam " She said and I looked down.
" I had a feeling it was him " I said and her cheeks turned a sheer pink.
" Yeah, I did too.. " She said, trailing off into her own thoughts. " Anyways, please stop crying Anna, don't be worried " She said and hugged me tight. " I know it's just, I feel like what I'm doing is.. bad. I just feel like I'm a bad person. " I said and a few more tears came crawling out of my eyes.
" Don't be. You can't help your feelings. And you're an amazing person. " She said and I gave her a crooked smile.
" I won't tell anyone about Sam " I said finally.
" And I won't tell anyone about Jason " She said and I gave her a real smile.
" Let's go back inside " I said and stood up, desperately wiping my tears.
" Yeah, let's go to the woman's room " She agreed and we walked off together, our secrets embedded in our hearts, not daring to tell anyone. As we got to the woman's room, we found everyone there including Queen Amberley.
Remembering King Clarkson's words, I sat next to her and smiled, she immediately returned the gesture with a nervous smile.
" Hello Annabelle " She said with sad eyes.
" Good morning Queen Amberley, are you okay? " I asked her and she winced.
" I've been better but, I'm fine " She said and I smiled at her, carefully placing my hand on top of hers.
At that moment, the image of Queen Amberley that I grew to see on cameras and magazines disappeared.
She wasn't the Queen.
She wasn't a one.
She was a mother. A human. The Queen's eyes suddenly became tired and sad, instead of the perfect and calm ones that we see all the time. The timeless beauty that was her face suddenly aged in seconds, wrinkles around her eyes and lips. Her demeanour became sad, angry and mostly tired. And in that moment, all of her confidence and beauty vanished, revealing a vulnerable and depressed person, tired of the cameras and the blinding lights. Tired of the fame. I could see how desperately she wanted was to be normal, for her children and husband to be safe and out of danger, out of the rebels reach.
Her eyes whispered a thank you to me, because I just saw something that I don't think anybody else saw.
I saw a person. Not a Queen.
