Who Was She?

Steve's PoV

I walked through to the cinema, I wanted to take my mind off the fact that I couldn't join the army because my multiple health problems.

I watched an advert that told people that soldiers and civilians have an importance in the war and that everyone should do what they must, I was starting to consider doing work if I don't get into the army.

A woman sat next to me, I think she didn't notice me, of course my small size would make me not really noticed by others.

She turned her head to me for a moment, I thought she had seen me and was going to apologise for taking a spot next to me, but she scanned around me but not on me.

I sighed as she turned towards the other seat, of course she didn't notice me. I felt something about her, I didn't know how to explain it, it was almost as if she was one of my soulmates, but I doubted it.

A man sitting in front of us and yelled, "who cares? Play the movie already!!!"

I was shocked at how rude he was, even the woman looked slightly irritated with how rude he was being. I said calmly, "hey, wanna show some respect?"

He shouted, "let's go!! Get on with it!" The woman's head went low, I thought she was going to cry, but for a moment, I swore I saw her eyes glowing.

"Hey, just start the cartoon!" He shouted, I said rudely, "hey, wanna shut up?" He turned to look at me, he dragged me out of the cinema and into an alley nearby it.

He punched me, I fell down, I quickly got up. He punched me down again. I grabbed a trash can lid and went with it as a shield of some sorts, he yanked it out my hands, then punched me again.

I got up getting ready to fight him, "you just don't know when to give up, do you?" I told him, "I can do this all day."

I tried to punch him, but he grabbed my hand and punched me down again, "hey pick on someone your own size," I heard suddenly, the voice sounded familiar.

I looked up and saw it was Bucky...and the woman was right behind him, though I don't think he noticed.

The man tried to punch Bucky, but he quickly dodged and punched back, then kicked him in his butt. Bucky said calmly, "sometimes I feel like you like getting punched."

I told him, "I had him on the ropes," Bucky noticed a paper on the ground, he picked it up, "how many times is this? Oh, your from Paramus now? You know it's illegal to lie on your enlistment forum, and seriously Jersey?"

He looked at the paper, reading the contents of it. I asked, "you get your orders?" He told me, "107th sergeant James Barnes, shipping out to England first thing tomorrow."

I told him, "I should be going." He looked at me, he smiled, "come on, it's my last night, gotta get you cleaned up."

I asked, "why where we going?" He answered, "the future." He tossed my enlistment forum and gave me a news paper, it said that there was going to be an exposition, I guess that's where we were going to be.

I turned back a little to see if the woman was still there, but she wasn't, I wonder where she went. Bucky asked, "what? Do you really want to be over there again?"

I shook my head, "no, I thought I had seen someone over there when you were fighting that guy for me."

He asked, "oh? Was it a girl you found yourself interested in?" I nodded, he seemed a bit surprised, "oh, so what's she like? Do you know her?"

I sighed, "no, but she sat next to me in the cinema before I was dragged out here, I don't know about her, but I felt something, like the same way I did when I first found you, Buck."

He smiled, "ah, so do you think she's our soulmate?" I nodded, "well, we'll look for her after the expo."

We walked to our shared home and he fixed me up, and we walked to the expo. We walked over to where a whole crowd was standing in front of a stage.

I wondered what was going on, but I noticed on the way there that there was an enlistment booth nearby. I continued to follow him towards the crowd.

I saw the woman standing in front of us, I didn't want to bother her since she seemed intent on trying to figure out what's going on.

She turned her head towards me, she smiled and nodded, Bucky didn't seem to notice. She nodded towards the enlistment booth, I suddenly had an urge to go over there and enlist.

I couldn't stop myself, I moved towards the booth, not listening to what was going on on the stage. I saw a woman with a man standing on a platform that showed whether he'd be tall enough to be soldier.

She moved him off, "come on soldier!" They walked further inside the booth, I stood on the platform, I was below the height needed, I actually appeared on the chin.

Bucky pushed me, "hey, I thought you had enough time to give up on that."

Change of PoV: Bucky's PoV

I looked Steve in the eyes, I hated that he couldn't join me on the battlefield, but I knew that I needed him to stay, he was too weak and had many health problems.

I saw there was this blank look in his eyes, "I need to try one more time Buck, I promise I won't fail this time."

I looked over at his shoulder and saw a woman holding his shoulder, she had glowing eyes, she wasn't normal no doubt. Steve asked, "is there something wrong, Buck?"

He turned his head over in the direction I was staring, but he seemed to be ignoring the woman, I was a little concerned for him, did he hit his head really hard that he didn't know this girl was there?

I asked, "do you feel anything on your shoulder?" He laughed, "Buck, there's nothing touching my shoulder, don't try to scare me like that!" He pushed my arm playfully, but he noticed the serious look on my face.

He asked, "is there something touching my shoulder?" I nodded, "what is it?" I told him, "a woman's hand, I'm not certain who she is, but she is one of those enhanced."

I saw the woman carefully move her hand off his shoulder, I noticed Steve's eyes widened, like he felt the hand come off his shoulder. He turned his head towards the woman as she slowly faded away.

I recognised her almost immediately, but I don't know why she of all people, was doing that to Steve. Did she know something about him?

He nodded, "that woman was the one from the cinema. I don't know who she is, but she definitely has a way with people."

I smiled, "well, alright. Let's go in and see if you could get in this time, perhaps you'll be lucky that you get in."

I took him inside, he stuttered, "w-why are you willing to help me now?" I explained, "well Steve, I know that woman, she's pretty famous, she's a member of the SSR, or Strategic Scientific Reserve, they are our science division, I believe her name is Charlotte or something."

I watch him enlist and go off on his way to become a member of the army...hopefully. I walked towards one of the seats and waited for him to let me know what's going to happen.
