March 21, 2:45 pm.
Ever since the she woke up this morning, Luz had been rather off compared to other days. She was silent and she didn't have that same energy she had everyday, most people though it was just because today was THAT day but whenever someone brought it up, a smile came to Luz's face. A foreign smile that made them uneasy and wary of her.
'4 more hours, just 4 more hours.' Luz thought as she gazed up from her paper, looking at the clock. 'And then, I can show them "me."'
Luz didn't show it or already hide it enough but she LOVED this day every since she was ten. Going out and doing whatever you wanted, no consequences or worries, it was therapeutic and euphoric. It made Luz so happy to be alive, so happy to live in these United States.
DINGGGGGGGGGG!
Before anyone knew it, the final bell rang and the students began to gather their things to head home.
"That's it for today, class. Have a wonderful day and be safe this weekend. I hope to see you all next week." The teacher said but most of the class didn't hear him, especially Luz as she gathered her things the quickest and rushed out the door.
'4 more hours before it's time to PURGE.' Luz thought as she grinned, showing her teeth as a satanic glint came to her eyes.
She practically moved at lightning speed as she reached her locker, opening it, and putting her books away before rushing out of the school. Luz didn't see the looks her classmates were giving her and she didn't care, she had to prepare for the siren. She had to prepare to be "herself ."
"The one night of the year I can show everyone who I am." Luz said to herself.
Luz smiled brightly, excited for what people would see as she went even faster towards her home. It was like she was inhuman, which was almost the truth.
She ran through the door of her house and went straight up to her room.
Camila heard her come in from the kitchen and sighed sadly, knowing what Luz was so excited about. She had accepting it when Luz turned 9 but it was still hard to come to terms with.
'She's my daughter and I will always love her but I hate what she becomes on Purge Night.' Camila thought.
Upstairs, Luz was loading her Uzi. It was her favorite type of gun, it always made her feel so good on how she can make a person's death quick or slow! Like she had control in the moment!
"Nothing better than watching them die." Luz said in a song like tone.
After loading her uzi, Luz checked on the amount of ammo she was going to bring. 12 sleeves of it.
"Perfect, now for my blades." Luz said as she set her gun aside and grabbed her three blades, two hunting knifes with wooden handles and a black machete.
She smiled at her reflection, the amount of people she killed with this. The feeling she experienced, bringing "justice" to those that wronged her for being different, for believing in magic and fantasy. What right did they have to laugh at her for it?
'Well, I guess it doesn't matter now. And it won't matter tonight.' Luz thought as she slowly pulled out her machete, gazing at the clear, dark metal.
The door opened, bringing her out of her thoughts.
"Luz... are you sure you want to go out there tonight?" Camila asked.
Luz put her machete down and turned to her mother, seeing the worried expression on her face.
"Don't worry mom, I'll be fine. The most I come back with is a few scratches." Luz said to her.
"No, Luz. I'm not worried about your injuries." Camila said as she walked in and sat down next to Luz. "I'm.....I'm worried about what you become when tonight begins."
"That's me." Luz said.
"No, Luz, that's the worst side of you." Camila said with worry.
"It's still me, Mami." Luz said as she put her machete down and checked on her hunting knives.
Camila frowned, she didn't like this side of Luz. She never liked this side of Luz since the day she was old enough to participate in the purge.
"Mija, I-" Camila was cut off by Luz.
"You don't know what it's like, mom. To be mocked and insulted just for being different, to hold all of that anger and PAIN back for so long!" Luz said as she gripped one of her knifes tightly, her knuckles turning white. "To just stand there and take their rejection when all I wanted was for them to accept me. To be their friend."
A life time of memories came rushing back; the laughter, the rejection, the mocking! It was like nails on a chalkboard every time she remembers!
"But no more, tonight, those people will die." Luz said as she held up her uzi, gazing at the barrel tip. "And it will be deserved!"
Luz didn't know it but she was crying as she grit her teeth in anger, very emotional from all she had endured before she was allowed to release it all on this day of the year. Suddenly, Camila pulled Luz into a hug and made her surprised.
"I know but please, don't lose yourself to this dark night." She said softly before kissing Luz on the forehead. "I love you, Mija."
"I love you, too." Luz said quietly.
Luz hugged her mother back, bringing her some comfort as she looked to the side to see the clock on her desk.
4:55pm
'Two more hours.' Luz thought.
