let go

I drop my blades ready to give up. Out of gas, I can't escape. Screams and roars are filling my mind with doubt that I'll ever make it back with the rest. My comrades have seen death, I sit here on my knees waiting for death it self to take me away as well. I can't fight my way any longer. I've become weak. I've lost my will to survive all together.

The forest floor is cold and unwelcoming, I feel the dampness soaking through my jeans on my knees and ankles. The ground is shaking. I can't feel anything but my own need to die right here. I can hear a Titan clumsily stomping his feet on the undergrowth of the forest. I can feel each of the beasts steps heading towards me. I'm unsure of everything around me. A feeling struck through my body. I jolted upright And started sprinting to God knows where, but I was running.

'why am i doing this?'

adrenaline took over my actions as I ran as fast as I could through the forest, stumbling on roots and fallen branches. My 3dmg rattling around at my sides. The ground still shaking beneath my feet, the beast was still chasing me. I don't think my feet can go any faster. I unbuckled the Belts holding up the gear. they dropped to my sides and I searched for an escape. I can't even remember why I was running. I feel one more large thump on the forest floor. I was on the ground again my knee bruised and bloody. I can't hear the titans anymore. Everyone's retreated by now. I cried out in pain as agony, dread, and fear took over.

'They left me. I'm going to die for sure'

I didn't have any hope. adrenaline kept me running. I get up to run only to be met by the cold ground again.

I can hear the hooks of someone's 3dmg in the distance. And the zipping noise of the wires getting very close to me. suddenly I feel a hand on my shoulder. I jump at the contact of another human. I don't care who it is. I cried and clung to the person. Relived that I wasn't alone or lost anymore. After the female titan attacked I was separated from my squad. I was the only survivor of the team. The person behind me hugged me tightly. He picked me up over his shoulder. I wasn't as far of the ground as I thought I'd be... How short is this person... Squad leader, Why hasn't he left yet? Did he hear me? Crap I dragged him into my mess.

"You're a fucking mess."

"Sorry", I reply quietly I realized my knee was bleeding on his side because of the way he carried me.

"You don't have t-" I tried listening I hard as I could, but I felt weak and tired. I couldn't. I let go Completely.

I woke up on a wagon. In a daze I look to the sky, the Sun is only beginning to set. I like that, It's peaceful. I'm hearing the remaining soldiers yelling, at who I assumed to be Erwin Smith. Yelling things like, 'we could have saved them' or 'you have no human feelings', but of course he did what he had to.

I'm bored of just laying here. My back was stiff from the hard wooden boards of the wagon. I tried to sit up right. It hurt like hell but sill, the hard boards aren't on my back. My leg was straight out, my knee had stopped bleeding but the bruises haven't been any less painful. I hear the tread of another soldier coming close to the wagon.

"You're awake.", It was Levi. He leaned on the side of the wagon, back facing me. "Idiot, why were you out there?"

I stayed silent not knowing what to say. I couldn't even begin to comprehend why he was out there or why he decided to save me. I obviously knew who he was, but we never have had a formal conversation. We've exchanged glances a few times but overall we have not had any real connection.

"I need an answer, Why did you leave your squad? I had to save your sorry ass." He was most definitely angry, I could understand why, but I couldn't grasp the concept of him caring for me

"Why do you care we don't even know each other! You have no need to take care of me, you should have no want to even know the condition I'm in. I'm just another soldier!" I was upset, I don't know why either. I feel like I should know the asset to those questions. He turned to me and looked almost shocked by what I said, his expression quickly turned to anger.

He stormed away and left me to figure out what in the world just happened on my own. I don't even know how long i've been out or how long it will take us to get back to the walls. Probably a day.... I sat in the corner of the wagon and got comfortable. I fall asleep looking at the stars.
