For the most part, work was pretty quiet. No one ever visited the clinic, only a few members coming to pick up medicine and the occasional clumsy kid asking for a pack of ice. Your mind was stuck on yesterday, replaying Swiss's voice in your head. Your eyes darted back and forth on your clipboard full of papers, struggling to read. The tiredness mixed with fond memories of holding Swiss's hand. It was all too good, you couldn't understand a single word on the page."Uhm.. So can I get the bandaids or not?" A voice spoke, and your head shot up in surprise, you completely forgot where you were. You stared blankly at the two kids standing behind the counter, and you turned around and pulled out the box, handing them to the kids, letting them grab however many they needed. They quickly grabbed a handful and ran out the clinic. You watched as they stumbled out the door. It felt good to watch them enjoy themselves, not having any worries or anyone constantly scolding them. It felt good to be here, but there was still a worry in the back of your head, how long would this last? Would you really be able to just stay here forever without anything happening? You shook that thought away, not wanting to get yourself worked up over nothing. There was no point thinking so far ahead in the future, just live in the moment and have fun until that day comes. That moment is here, in the church where papa gave you a loving home.
Ash was out running errands, which left you to take care of the clinic. You sat down on a nearby cot, looking out the window, watching the rain pour down outside. A few members dressed in all black walked through the courtyard, carrying umbrellas for each other. Kids jumped around in puddles, trying to splash the others. You rested your head on your hand, feeling tired from the night before, your head leaning on the window.
Just before your eyes closed, a familiar voice spoke, "Sleeping on the job already? I thought you were better than that." Your head perked up, looking over to the doorway, where Swiss stood leaning against the doorframe. You rolled your eyes, walking over to behind the desk again, leaning your elbows on the counter.
"You were the one to kept me up so late." You teased back, cocking your head to the side.
He threw his hands up in defeat and walked closer to the desk, mimicking the way you stood. All you could do was stare at his eyes through his silver mask, keeping eye contacts for a few seconds before he broke it and looked away. He coughed, standing up straight, slapping his hands on the desk.
"Did Papa send for you or did you just miss me?" You teased, and his hand reached up to push your head back lightly to which you laughed at. "Sorry, sorry." You smiled, walking over to the cot and patting the place next to you.
"Just myself, I was wondering if you'd maybe want to go for a walk, take a break from work."
You looked over at the clock on the wall, sighing, "I could use some entertainment."
With that, you slipped on a jacket and grabbed an umbrella from behind the desk. You and Swiss walked around back to the courtyard to enjoy the smell of the rain and take a breath of fresh air. As you both stood right outside the door, you opened up the umbrella, reaching up to cover both of your heads comfortably. You chuckled as the top of the umbrella brushed against the tip of his horns. Without saying anything, he took it from you, holding it over both of you. He looked down at you and winked, snaking his other hand around your waist, pulling you closer to him.
"So you.. don't get wet." He mumbled, stepping forward into the courtyard, and you both headed towards the path which led to a small garden. You walked in silence, the sound of the rain hitting the concrete and grass filled the air, and it felt so calming. Swiss led you through the flower filled garden, most of them swaying in the light wind. You looked over to the woods, a strange figure ducking behind a tree as soon as you looked over. Before you could speak, Swiss continued to walk down the path, leading you to a secluded area with a table and covered patio.
"Woah, Swiss, this is so beautiful." You gasped, slipping out of his grasp to run under cover, looking around at the fence that was covered in vines. "Do you come here often?" You turned back to him, shaking off the wet umbrella before following you inside.
"I come here to write music a lot, as well as that window where we met once." He smiled, walking over to sit down on the table, and you plopped over to join him. Swinging your feet back and forth, you admired the scenery, flowers and vines and surrounded in a beautiful garden.
"Who tends to the garden? It's so pretty."
"Mountain, he comes out late in the night, usually when no one else is out here. He's shy about his gardening, but I don't think he should be, it's extremely impressive what he's done." You nodded in reply, turning your head to look around, and spotting the same figure once again.
"Hey, do you see that?" You tapped his arm, trying to subtly point to the cloaked figure behind the bush. Before Swiss turned to look, it disappeared again. "What.. but.. it was right there." You stood up, walking over to the fence. Swiss followed, standing behind you, trying to look around for anyone.
"Huh.. I don't see anything. Maybe your imagination.." He shrugged off, patting your head. He walked over to the gate, sitting slightly on it, watching the dark clouds get darker and the rain get heavier. You couldn't shake the feeling that you were being watched, it sat there heavily in the back of your mind. You tried to brush off the thoughts with simple excuses, probably another ghoul, or maybe someone from the church. You did your best to push the weird thoughts away as far as possible.
