It all started around the time they usually ate breakfast.

The father sitting at the head of the table, the mother to his left, and the daughter to his right. It was a simple breakfast, but something was off.

Anya sat there in her chair, her legs swinging back and forth as she chewed a mouthful of food (probably more than she could handle, to be honest). She had on her usual blue pajamas and night cap, yet unlike other mornings, she was fully awake.

'Papa makes the best food,' she thought to herself, smiling a bit as she got some more onto her fork. She looked over at her father, Loid; but to her surprise, he wasn't smiling. He sat there with a darkened look on his face, quietly eating and refusing to talk to his family. Confused, Anya looked across the table at her mother, Yor, but she saw the same thing - a sullen look as she ate in silence.

Now that she thought about it, it was more quiet this morning than it typically was. They would sometimes have small conversations about their jobs, their plans for the weekend, maybe even about Anya's schoolwork. But not today, it seemed.

What was also strange was the fact that Anya couldn't seem to hear what they were thinking. Her mind was blank, almost as if her telepathic powers had just up and disappeared. That couldn't have been the case, though - maybe they just weren't thinking of anything this morning?

Not thinking much more of it, Anya shrugged and began to chow down again, trying to hurry so she wouldn't be late for the bus. As she took her last bite, she turned and got down from her chair, beginning to head to her room so she could get dressed.

"Anya," Loid finally spoke, turning his head to look at the little girl. She stopped just before she could reach the hallway, turning to glance at her father in surprise. Well, whatever it was he had to say, it must've been important if he finally spoke for once this morning.

"There's no need for you to wear your uniform today. You're not going to school."

"But what about—"

"Just get dressed in something casual. Don't worry about it."

'What's up with papa and mama?'

That was the only question circulating around in Anya's mind as they walked past her bus stop. Actually, it was the only question in her mind that whole morning. This was the strangest day of her life yet, at least it felt that way.

She wasn't going to school. She couldn't read anybody's thoughts. Everyone ignored the family, as if they never existed. Her parents never held her hand as they walked, despite asking a few times already.

"Papa?" Anya upped her pace, getting in front of her parents and holding her arms out, as if that would stop them from continuing. "What's up with you guys today?" she asked, worry clear as day on her face. "Where are we going? Don't I have to go to school? I have a test today and—"

"Anya."

The tone Loid held towards his daughter was shocking. It was full of malice and irritation, taking her by surprise. Yor then stepped forward, taking Anya's hand into hers, a little forcefully too. Anya yelped at the sudden movement, trying to pull her hand away from the woman's as she tightened her hold into a death grip.
