Elaina makes it home before her granddad does. She goes inside to find something to do hoping that he doesn't mention anything about seeing her kissing a boy. Her granddad was very strict, she couldn't have a boyfriend because he wouldn't allow it. However, Elaina learned the art of being very sneaky, which comes back to bite her in the ass once shes in high school but she doesn't know that yet. When it came to being financially supported, Elaina's Aunt Ruby took her under her wing as her own, and when it came to having a goofy personality she picked that up from her Aunt Love. After their older sister, which was Elaina's mom left, Ruby and Love took the responsibility of raising Elaina. They weren't the picture perfect family but they were all that they had.

Elaina's problems in the relationship department started very early, she was so willing and ready to have somebody just for her and she thought she had that forever person because they grew up together, however Theo had a flip side. They would act like complete strangers at school, because no one knew that they were actually together. Elaina began to feel unwanted, like he didn't want to be seen with her in public. She would speak to him in the hallways, and Theo would give her a side eye blank stare like he had no idea who she was. Not only did this damage Elaina emotionally but it caused her to build a wall up because her first real relationship was never real.

Riding the bus home from school would be interesting, They had classmates that would pick from time to time but once they caught on that Elaina and Theo liked each other, that became free game to harass and pick for no reason. On day there weren't any extra seats on the bus so Elaina had to sit with Theo, and of course being a pre-teen, you are going to be subdued to peer-pressure. Their classmates would not stop messing with them until they kissed for everybody to see. The oooohs and ahhhhs were nice for the time being but the aftermath of that took a toll on Elaina afterwards. The next day, Elaina catches Theo asking another girl out and he's already in a relationship with Elaina. This caused Elaina to become closed off when it comes to putting her feelings out there. Everytime something is going good, something always happens to disturb that good feeling. This sent Elaina into an emotional rage, she just wanted to know why. How can a person say that they want to be with you and then switch up like that. Dealing with this heartbreak at such a young age caused Elaina to disconnect from who she really was for a long time. It make her question alot of things from why she is the way she is and if what she was searching for, she would be able to get it from a guy. This made her question her sexuality as well.
