Alec's pov: 

I stared at the email displayed on the screen of my tablet silently. 

It was from one of the clave officials. 

Warning me that strict action will be taken against me if I decide to go ahead with my marriage with Magnus. 

Word about us being engaged has already spread wide through the institute after the Lightwood ring was spotted on Magnus' finger. 

Now, I'm not angry or unhappy about the development of our relationship being known to others. 

But. One thing i am unhappy about is the threats I've been getting from counsel members and clave officials. 

So I've been thinking of how to get these to stop. 

I honestly don't care what they have to say about the relationship between Magnus and i, but they do get annoying after a certain point

I sat back in my chair and crossed my arms. 

What can i do that can both piss them all off and shut them up for good? 

I got up from my chair and went out of my office.

I looked over the shadowhunters who were gathered in front of me waiting for me to speak. 

We were now in the meeting room.

I could see some unhappy faces and also some downright disgusted faces among them. 

"So. Those of you who don't want to be here or don't want to listen to what i have to say can leave. I'm not going to talk about something official or anything so you won't miss out on anything important. And don't worry, you won't get any punishments either. I just want to talk to the ones who aren't disgusted just by seeing me." I spoke in a loud and firm voice. 

I could tell they were all confused at that but a few of them turned and left after scoffing. 

I waited for a few minutes as the last of the unhappy and disgusted faces left. 

"Ok so. I gathered you here to ask your opinion on something. But first, how many of you are in a same-sex relationship or are in a relationship with a donwnworlder?" I asked. 

I was a bit surprised to see that almost all of them raised their hands. Only 4 or 5 hadn't raised their hands.

"Oh, that's a bit unexpected. But quite welcome." I smiled. 

They all smiled back. 

"So. What i want to ask your opinion is this. I've been getting a lot of threatening emails from both council members and clave officials to break off my engagement with Magnus. I've been trying to come up with a way that would both piss them all off and shut them up for good. But i haven't had any bright ideas. So i was wondering if any of you would give me any suggestions. Of course, no names or anything will be mentioned if i do accept the idea." I explained. 

They all seemed deep in thought and were murmuring among themselves for a while after that. 

"Um." A girl who looked like she was around 18 years old raised her hand. 

"Yes?" I looked at her waiting. 

"There are many other institutes who are following your example and setting up relationships downworlders right? And are accepting of same-sex relationships?" She asked. 

"Yes. There are quite a few from around the world who have reached out to me." I nodded. 

"Then how about you hold your wedding here? Brother Zachariah would definitely support you even if no other silent brother does. You can spread the word among the shadowhunters in New York and also the downworlders. And you can invite council members and officials from institutes all over the world in the name of the clave officials and council members who've been threatening you. That way, they'll send emails directly to those people thanking them for the invitations. And as far as we know, clave officials and council members love their reputation more than anything else. So, when they get multiple emails saying thank you for the invitations, they won't be able to say that the information was false. And even if they do, the invited people will know that to be a lie because word would have already spread far by that time. And I'm sure many would be excited by the news as well. Some might even contact you and Magnus to make sure, then you can confirm it and maybe even act innocent with a few tears saying you don't know why they're denying it. And with that, they'll contact the clave officials and council members again asking why they were denying the truth and some might even give them a good earful for their behavior. And that will affect their own reputation since they will be made out to be homophobes who don't want to support your relationship. So they will dig their own grave if they deny the news and if they accept it, their reputation will stay. But either way, they won't be able to say anything more against your and Magnus' marriage or relationship." She explained.
