A month had already passed by so quickly, the days slipped by in a blur for Kenny that consisted of feedings, play time, diaper changes, naps and bed times. He had never been so happier in his whole life. Willem and Martha had him set in his routine within the first few days. They themselves were the happiest they had been since the miscarriage. Kenny had grown much closer to Martha and as the days of turned into weeks he became more attached to her. Martha was the one who was changing his diapers more and more, as he would put up and a fuss if Willem tried to change him. Willem was a little jealous at first but when he saw what effect this had on his wife he took a step back, and let her be the one to take care of his needs. However Kenny would only settle down at night in his crib without any fuss if Willem put him down for the night. Martha realised that this was their time to bond and she was glad to let them have the time together.

By now the news of Kenny had gotten out to the rest of the community, and all of Martha’s friends had rocked up one day to surprise her with a baby shower.

Annie Bester her best friend who was standing In front of the other ladies, smiling shouted “Surprise, Now where is the little bundle of joy.” ”umm it’s not quite what you” Martha tried to say”

“Darling we know everything, ”and with that she led the ladies inside, each laden with gifts and eats, and each giggling with delight. A dumbstruck Martha followed them inside still drying her hands on her apron that read “world’s happiest mommy”

Annie came over to her and took her and gave her friend a tight hug and whispered into Martha’s ear. “I am so happy for you darling, but a little hurt by being kept in the dark.” She pulled away and looked into her friends face smiling. “Now come do prey tell all.”

Martha pulled herself together and said, ”Ok ladies, please can we keep it down, I don’t want all you hens and your clucking frighten the living daylights out of him. “Now I think some tea would be in order, glancing at the clock on the kitchen wall. Everybody sprung into action and began plating all the goodies that they had brought with. Once the tea was made they made their way to the lounge.

Martha sat down and then said “ please don’t think me being rude, I appreciate that you want to give me a baby shower but you must know that Kenny is not your conventional baby.” Annie put her hands over her friends and held them in Martha’s lap.

“My darling stop, we know everything, and that is why we are here, we are your friends and are here to support you. Not one of us will ever judge you. Over the years you have been there for each and everyone of us in some way or another, so now it is our turn to do the same.” When Martha heard this her shoulders dropped as the tension left her body, she looked at her friends and broke down in tears of joy.

The ladies jumped up and all came to crowd around her and they had a group hug. Once they had all settled back again Martha said, “Guys I am so sorry for the exclusion, I wasn’t sure how you would respond to the situation, thank you for your support.”

Just then Willem came in through the patio pushing a large stroller. Kenny was sitting in the stroller dressed in a cute sailor outfit, complete with a sailor cap, his bib had a picture of an anchor printed on. He was sucking on his pacifier and had a rattle in his hand that he was shaking about. When the ladies saw him there was a torrent of “oohs and awws, isn’t he just the cutest button you ever did see. Kenny saw all the ladies and he began to bounce up and down with excitement and let out squeals of laughter at the faces that the woman were giving him, “gooogaagaa ggleeehee deegwwwe.” This just sat the woman off again.

Willem looked at Martha and she just shrugged her shoulders. Annie stood up and went over to Willem and gave him a peck on the cheek. “Hello there darling, don’t you just look like you are on top of the world. My you are virtually glowing.” She said. Willem turned a bright shade of red and didn’t know where to look. “Hi Annie this is a nice surprise.” “Yes we thought you guys needed a little push. Would you mind if I held him?” she asked. “Well someone is in dire need of a change,” Willem said looking at Martha,
