Invisia sat at her desk, doodling away in her notebook while her teacher lectured on about math equations. She shaded four particular words until they were nice and bold. Today is the day!
Miya was locked in a heated basketball game in the school's gym. She dribbled between her legs easily and juked her opponents. With grace none of her classmates had ever seen before, she made a long distance shot that somehow made it clean through the net. Her entire team and coach cheered with great enthusiasm. As Miya enjoyed the applause she had only one thought: Today's my day.
Sofia was in the middle of an exam that had many of her classmates scratching their heads. Their looks of anguish and despair were works of art to the teacher. What she didn't expect, however, was for Sofia to quickly walk up with a finished exam and walk out of the room as per instructed.
Once she stepped foot outside the classroom, she noticed Miya and Invisia who had been waiting for her. "Today's the day!" Sofia declared confidently.
The three ventured into the library basement, but stopped in their tracks when they spotted Ms. Lily talking with a pair of strangers. One was a young man in black leather, which contradicted well with the white goggles he had over his eyes. His spiky hair looked sharp enough to pierce paper. The woman next to him was garbed in lots of yellow, also sporting a clear set of goggles on her face. Ms. Lily did not look like she was under any stress, so the students closed in to join the conversation.
"Ah, there they are," Lily said when she saw her girls approaching. "Girls, meet Eli and Naeveh. They're from The Nexus Society."
"Hi," Naeveh waved.
"Nice to meet you!" Invisia said.
"Yeah yeah, smiles all around," Eli interrupted. "Now can we get to work? I'm missing my shows over this."
"He must be fun to hang around," Miya whispered.
"I'll cut to the chase." Lily pulled up the Hoirom map on the monitor. Blue snowflakes were pinned on specific spots of the map. "These were the last few sightings of Wight. Your mission is to track him down and convince him to return here so that we can ask him about his investigation on the Hero Hunters. Any questions?"
"Are we allowed to use force to beat him down?" Eli asked him.
"No!" Lily answered. "Geez... No wonder Kayde sent you here. Now all of you get going."
The team split into two and hit the midday Hoirom streets. Eli was put in charge of watching over Miya downtown. The buildings were towering and old, and the smell of gasoline could be smelled around every corner. They were both quiet and focused on walking down the sidewalk in search of clues of Wight's whereabouts.
"So what kind of person is this guy anyway?" Eli randomly asked.
"Huh?" Miya tried to process the question in order to find a solid answer, but all she could recall was Wight's abrasive personality. "He's, uh, intense."
"Makes sense. He's been flying solo as a sidekick for years now. Shame he let Obsidian go missing."
"What exactly does it mean to be a sidekick anyway?" Miya asked him.
"Being a sidekick isn't exactly as bad as it sounds," Eli answered. "It's more of a mentor mentee role. We learn to become heroes by working with the best. Kayde took me on and he's been teaching me stuff."
"So Wight was Obsidian's sidekick?"
"Yeah? Try and keep up, I don't have time to be teaching you this stuff." Eli turned into a small cafe where Naeveh and the other students were waiting. "Whatcha got?" he asked them.
