the land they pass by is empty. a ghost town that makes jisung increasingly more uncomfortable.

chenle was quiet and the ride itself was also quiet with the radio not working. jisung kept looking out the window, holding a hand up to his cheek. chenle kissed him twice on the cheek. twice. why? he's not exactly complaining, but he doesn't know why he kissed him twice.

on the cheek.

jisung's liked people in the past. the most acts of any signs of liking him back was hand holding and the eye contact thing, but he never kissed him. jisung was too scared to kiss him first and eventually, they drifted apart and nothing came of it.

does chenle...?

oh, sure, perhaps he does. jisung and chenle hardly talk. plus, what does chenle have to like about him? he nearly got him killed twice already. first, it was the window. second, it was the staircase. the events didn't even happen a few days apart. heck, chenle kicked him right in the shin. but now he goes and kisses his cheek!

he kissed my cheek!

jisung spares chenle a glance, the other focused heavily on the road. it was so weird without the sound of other cars on the road, driving on either side. the emptiness was unnerving and makes jisung feel so off about this. he survived being attacked by infected twice and yet this is what bothers him the most.

the silence. that's what it is. it's the silence that he hates. the only thing he hears is his breathing and the sound of the truck on the road. they take a straight shot and don't stop anywhere.

after what felt like a long time, chenle finally speaks again. "do you have a gas can?"

jisung didn't look long enough to note. "er — maybe?"

it's like his dad to have one back there and it's like him to not bother to care.

"good. less stops we have to make, the better."

jisung nods. "that's fair."

i want to get to the safe section as soon as i can.

they continue on, the road emptier than ever, and all the buildings on either side of them abandoned. jisung continues to look out of the window, his eyelids starting to droop. right about now is his nap time, isn't it?

as he leans back into his chair and starts to drift off, that's when he hears someone yelling.

"stop! please! stop!"

chenle keeps going at first but jisung grabs his arm, urging him to stop. "chenle, stop the truck."

chenle looks at him and stops it while still looking right at him with a frown on his face. jisung looks out the window and rolls it down, waiting for the person who called them to catch up. they do, revealing their dirty face to the pair. for a second, jisung can't believe his eyes.

wait.

"danny?"

"jisung?" the other man retorts in utter surprise. soon, his shock turns into happiness. "oh my god, it's really you! man, i'm so fucking glad you're alive!"

he reaches in through the opening the window left and cups jisung's face in his hands, who looked close to crying again.

"i thought something bad happened to you, you never were online," jisung says brittlely.

"same, with everything going on," danny replies before pulling his hands away, which leaves dirt stains on jisung's once clean cheeks. "who's that?" he points at chenle, who's giving him a weird look. "is he your — ?"
