chenle keeps watch again, the truck parked in front of an abandoned coffee shop.

he lays back, and watches the land before him. he was expecting to spend it alone as he did yesterday night, but to his surprise, jisung came to join him. he helps himself up onto the cargo bed and sits right next to chenle to their point their shoulders were touching.

"go sleep," chenle says simply.

"nah, i think i'd rather keep you company," jisung retorts with a small smile chenle could hardly see in the lack of night. "i want to say thank you."

chenle blinks in a confused way.

"if you hadn't gotten my attention with your little laser, i wouldn't be here," jisung continues. "i know i wouldn't. i was in a bad place after my parents died."

chenle knows. his father was turned first and he attacked his mother.

"you helped me a lot," jisung goes on. he then pauses before saying, "why did you kiss my cheek?"

you kissed my cheek, too, chenle thinks.

chenle goes pink, but he's rather thankful it's dark out. it's why he feels so weird about danny. he was reluctant to let danny sleep with jisung, but his need to protect him won out. heck, chenle made sure to have his baseball bat with him this time, his weapon of choice resting in his lap.

it's not like danny and jisung are dating, anyway.

"er... to make you feel better?" chenle tries.

"huh, well, it really helped," jisung giggles.

"and i think you're pretty," chenle says under his breath.

"what?" jisung didn't catch what he said.

"nothing," chenle says quickly.

"aww, no, what was it?" jisung presses on playfully. chenle shakes his head. "oh, alright."

then, they sit in silence, looking up at the night sky. jisung didn't typically see stars anymore since he moved out from his parents' house, but now, he was seeing them again for what felt like the first time. he sighs contently at the beauty of it, noting me mentally that this isn't something he sees back in the city. it reminds him of a simpler life back when he was still young and relying on his parents.

yet, staring up at the sky made him a little sad.

"we'll find the safe section, right?" jisung speaks aloud.

"yes," chenle retorts softly. catching the other's tone, he thinks of slipping an arm around him to almost pull him impossibly close to hug him again. then, without more hesitation, he did it.

jisung, on the other hand, appreciated it, resting his head on chenle's shoulder.

"i just..." jisung starts. "...i shouldn't have doubts anymore and all like i used to, but there's still a chance we might not make it another day. i don't wanna lose you and danny and i just saw danny again."

chenle nods.

"again, i'm so thankful for you," jisung nearly whispers. "and i'm sorry for nearly killing you twice — "

"i forgave you, jisung."

to jisung's surprise. the window thing and the staircase... it was too big of a risk yet he still forgave him.

jisung is the one not to speak this time, just closing his eyes. chenle was really warm. a welcome thing out in the cold night without any jacket of sorts.

"i wouldn't have," jisung admits eventually.

"but i did."

jisung's heart swells. perhaps he could've gone back with danny and slept in the truck instead of on the cargo bed, but chenle's warmth was hard to leave. if anything, he would like to stay like this for maybe the entire night.
