Knock knock!
I was just at the door, my black cat balancing on my shoulder and my backpack on me for support.
I waited there in complete silence, rolling back a little nervously on my heels when suddenly the door swung open and there stood a disgruntled girl. Coraline.
I smiled at her nervously and Coraline just frowned heavily at the sight of me. She quickly slammed the door shut but I instantly stuck my foot to stop it midway and instead my foot was slammed against the doorframe.
"Wybie!" Coraline squeaked, shocked at my sudden action. She quickly pulled the door open again and I gave a pained awkward smile as I quickly hopped about on my good foot, trying to feel the damage on my injured one.
I nearly tripped over myself with this uneasy method, and as I did fall, Coraline caught me in her grip and helped me lean to the side on the doorframe, as I checked out the sore part of my foot.
"What are you doing here?" She asked me straight out, once I placed both feet safely back on the ground, "What?"
I smiled nervously and gulped, my black cat looking at my uneasy expression and quickly butting in.
"He came to get his grandma back."
"What do you mean?"
Coraline gazed at me warily, and I smiled even more afraid now. I felt my cat grab the zip of my bag with his teeth as he pulled the bag open, and out dropped the doll to the ground. Coraline's eyes just widened.
"Oh, Wybie..." she uttered upset, whispered almost.
She picked the two-faced doll up into her hand, looking at it carefully before catching my gaze again. There was a sadness in her eyes.
"She took her? Yeah?"
"Yeah," I uttered, and gave a sad nod of my head.
"But... but how?"
I gulped.
Oh boy, how was I gonna tell her.
So I didn't.
I showed her instead.
I pulled the key necklace out from under my top, holding the key itself up with just my finger and thumb. Coraline's eyes widened the second she saw it.
"You HAVE IT?!"
I clenched my eyes shut at her sudden loud yell.
"Y-yes,"
"HOW?"
My ears nearly bled from the volume of her scream.
"I had to." Is all I said, and she just turned her sight back at me, a vicious glare from her eyes.
"So what are you going to do?"
I gulped unsteadily, and slowly sighed out heavily, looking into her worried brown eyes before saying.
"-This is the only feasible way back to the other world."
I paused – that wasn't me talking. No, my black cat had took up the mantle of conversation once more.
"What do you mean?"
"There are many ways to enter the Other World..." My cat continued, tilting his head in a bit of a shrug as he continued, "But this... well, it's the easiest."
"I-" Coraline began to say, her eyes looking back and forth at me and the cat, "I just don't think I can go back there."
"I understand." I told her honestly and she nodded her head in agreement, "So just let ME."
