School.

I was not able for school at all today.

I got up in the wee hours of the morning and prepared my lunch, books, and homework for what was before me that day.

As I got on my bike, I could see the sun just splitting through the horizon, as the mornings here were often too dark except passed eight a.m.

I closed my eyes, slowly breathing in the morning air and I began my cycle to town and to middle school.

When my wheels hit the paved cement on the sidewalks, I looked ahead and could see Coraline had already arrived on the bus with a bunch of other students.

I smiled, relieved to see her, but she was taking her time and talking to the other young preteens that she had been sitting with AND chatting with on the bus.

I waved to her with a happy smile but she seemed to see straight through me as she passed me out without even looking in my direction.

I slowly lowered my hand down again, feeling it... my hurting heart. I tensed up completely though when Zackery dropped his black hand on my shoulder and I glanced behind me, seeing his cool as air smile and expression.

"Don't worry, cous." He told me with ease as I slowly regained movement of my body and parked my bike at one the bike racks. As I was paddle locking it, I heard him sigh out easily, "Sometimes, people.. they, y'know?"

"What." I didn't even ask. I just stated a simple sentence.

"Grow apart..." Zackery finished, shrugging his shoulders that second and the two of us, struck up in straight positions when we heard the bell chime.

I hated to admit it, but I was afraid my cousin was right. Coraline was my best friend... but maybe I wasn't even hers... was I even a friend to her? I was afraid to find out.

As we went to our classes for the morning, my worries and cares all seemed to fade away the second I looked up and saw Miss Adams.

My heart began to flutter, and I turned to my side, seeing Coraline at the same desk as me, but she was too busy not paying attention and instead was doodling pictures to her delight.

"Coraline?"

My heart stopped short the minute Miss Adams addressed my friend and Coraline snapped up straight, quickly slamming her notebook shut and nodding instantly to the English teacher.

"Yes, Miss?" She squeaked, obviously trying to hide the fact she wasn't paying attention at all.

"Can you please recite the poem that was given as your homework?"

Coraline had a ball of sweat slowly slip down her brow and she only cleared her throat, standing up and beginning... I could see the hairs on her arms almost raised up.

"I... um,"

She gulped.

Miss Adams only replied.

"Go on."

"I wondered as a clown, which floats on by with water and jin-"

"STOP."

Coraline froze the minute the teacher had interrupted her.

"Just STOP."

"Heh heh," Coraline only mumbled and Miss Adams turned her sight to me, I blushed at her eye contact.

"Wybie... could you recite the poem?"

I felt my whole body trembling the moment she asked me, but I slowly nodded my head and stood up, my back hunched over like always.
