“He walked you home!?” Sarah yelled, eyes wide. Refusing to meet her gaze, Willow picked at her lunch.
“Yeah…” She whispered.
“Well dang! I’m gone for one stupid day, and I miss everything!” Not saying anything, Willow tried to zone her out. She just didn’t feel like talking right now.
Does he usually walk girls home? Or is it just me? Don’t be stupid! Of course there’s more girls… He must have hit rock bottom to want to walk ME home…
“Are you even listening to me Willow?” Sarah’s voice asked. She quickly looked up at Sarah, trying to make it seem like she had been paying attention to her all along.
“What? Yeah, or course I am.”
Liar…
“I’m not stupid. I know when my best friend is lying.” Her arms were crossed across her chest, as she got angrier and angrier by the second.
“I’m sorry, I’m just not all here today, if you know what I mean…”
“Does is have anything to do with the fact that flipping Finn Carter walked you home!? Cause if it does, I completely understand. I mean, I was hoping that he would take notice in you after I give you the makeover, but I never expected that this would happen!” Feeling a little offended, Willow decided it was time to change the subject.
“Do you think you could get me a job at where you work?” Sarah’s face fell from a grin to a confused expression in less than two seconds.
“Why?”
“My dad lost his job again, and if I don’t hurry and find a job by the end of this week were going to end up in debt.” Willow whispered.
“Are you being serious?”
This is embarrassing…
“Yeah… but if you can’t I’ll understand. I just thought that I should ask you first. You know, you’re my best friend and I thought maybe it could even be a little fun if we worked together…” At this point, Willow had continued picking at her food.
“Are you kidding me!? That’s a great idea! I’ll ask my boss this afternoon about it. I’m sure he’ll say yes.”
“Thanks, it really means a lot to me.”
“I’m doing this for me too. Do you know how boring it is over there just cleaning tables all by yourself? Yeah, I didn’t think so…” The rest of lunch went on as it usually did. Sarah kept interrogating Willow on what had happened with Finn, and the makeover that was going to take place after school. But even though Sarah was thrilled, Willow wasn’t exactly all for it. But if it got Finn to notice her more, then who was complaining?
