episode 1

CHATTER. That was all Elena heard as she made her way through the crowds of people who were pushing their way to the bleachers to the left of the gymnasium.

Of course, there was a reason for the crowdedness. That night, Hawkins High was having a pep rally. The only reason that Elena was there was because she was one of their beloved cheerleaders.

She tugged at the skirt she was wearing before she reached up and tightened the ponytail was sat on the top of her head, a few loose strands framing her face. "Elena!" She furrowed her eyebrows and looked up just as her best friend, Chrissy Cunningham, came running over to her, a bright smile on her face.

"Hey, Chriss." She smiled back at her, her eyes curving into two crescents. Chrissy hugged her quickly and swayed side-to-side, happy to see her lifelong friend. "Come on! The rest of the girls are over here." Chrissy grabbed her hand and started to pull her over to a corner in the gym, reuniting with the other cheerleaders.

"We're on in. . ." Megan, one of the other cheerleaders, looked over at the clock that was hanging above a basketball net. "About 5 minutes. Let's do some stretches." Elena unzipped her jacket that was keeping her warm and set it to the side before she bent down to touch her toes.

Stretching was the most annoying part of being a cheerleader in her opinion for the sore fact that they were repetitive. The same thing over and over and over, so, naturally, she got bored very quickly. However, she did it anyway to stay in shape, knowing that being a cheerleader was one of her only chances of getting somewhere. And her parents would kill her if she somehow got kicked off of the team.

She straightened back out and spread her legs, bending over once more. She knew that the majority of the school had turned their gaze towards them, infatuated by the gorgeous girls that practically ran the school. "Okay, girls. Let's get going." Elena stood up straight and checked her shoelaces, making sure they were double knotted before she grabbed her poms, following close behind Chrissy as they prepared to perform in front of the school.

If she wasn't mistaken, there were a few graduated students in the audience, which she thought was sort of cool. Like. . . Steve Harrington! The previous king of Hawkins High. A basketball legend around town. She had always thought he was cool but in an admiration kind of way.

The band instructor stood in front of a decently sized group of teens, inaudibly counting down before she started to move her hands, directing them. That was the signal to start performing. Elena stood diagonal from Chrissy, poms stuck tightly between her hands as she began to move around, any other thoughts disappearing as she moved.

She was very passionate about what she does, no matter what. Even if she didn't like doing it, she would give it her all. Which was probably why she did most of the tumbling in any performances. She tossed her poms to the side and walked to the front, bending over backward before kicking off, swinging her legs over, and landing on her feet. She repeated this once more but ended it off by also doing a back-tuck.
