The date is January 1. The time is 0501 hours. 5:01 am.

Traveling through the Duat is annoying, especially when it includes getting covered in sand at 5 in the morning. Which is what the two Kane siblings just experienced. "Gods, I hate doing that." Said Sadie, shaking the sand out of her hair.

"Yeah, pretty early to be covered in sand, huh?" Said Carter, dusting off his clothes. They were on the rooftop of the Twenty-first Nome, the Egyptian artifact steaming behind them. "Especially early considering yesterday." Said Sadie, remembering the amount of cheese fondue she had to clean off of her clothes.

"Sadie, Carter, welcome back!" Greeted Felix, followed by his penguins, Walt, and Jaz. "Heya Felix. How's it been without us?" Said Carter, ruffling the young boy's hair, and addressing the question to the older magicians. "Apart from that one snow-sandstorm during Christmas, there wasn't anything too chaotic." Said Jaz, hugging Sadie.

"You guys got lucky. Our Demon Days were a bit more chaotic. We'll tell you guys about it when we get all settled back, eh?" Said Sadie, heading towards the stairs. "As long as we can have it with a warm cup of sahlab, I'm in." Said Walt, grabbing Sadie's hand.

After the two siblings got settled back into their rooms, they went outside to the balcony where Jaz, Walt, and Felix were. Jaz handed the two of them warm cups of sahlab topped with chopped pistachios before sitting back down. "Alright, since we're all settled down, tell us what happened."

"So you're saying that you guys met Khons avatar and that he has two other people stuck in his body? Like possession?" Said Walt, summarizing everything they were told about Marc, Jake, and Steven. "More or less. I think it involves some sort of trauma thing. Said he didn't wanna dive into it." Sadie said, taking a big gulp of her sahlab.

"You said he had a suit right? What'd it look like?" Piped Felix, letting his penguins take sips from his cup. "Dirty white bandages and white armor with a crescent in the middle for Marc, I think. A white three-piece suit for Steven, and the third guy, I think his name was James? Jack? Anyways, his was just Marc's but with black bandages." Said Carter.

"Okay, back to Khons and his avatar, I just want to know if it's possession of a zār or something much more weird and dangerous." Said Walt, tapping his fingers on the table. "Don't zār's only possess women?" Asked Carter, gulping down the rest of his drink.

"It's more common for women, yeah." Replied Walt, taking a small sip from his cup. "I can just text or call him to ask. Moon Knight, as he likes to be called." Said Sadie, taking out her phone, going to her messages, and clicking on their phone number.

"It's Steven. The lad in the suit." Said Sadie, showing the replies to the group. "Didn't one of the other ones specifically say not to ask about it because of trauma they have?" Said Jaz, clearly hesitant about the entire idea. "If he responds and tells us himself, it should be fine, right?"

The number went silent for a few moments, moments filled with small chatter from the magicians, until the three dots showed up on screen. The dots indicating that Steven is typing on the other side.

Sadie exited her messages app and opened up her search engine, typing in the word "DID". "According to Google, DID, the thing Marc, Steven, and Jake have, Dissociative Identity Disorder is a mental health condition. Someone with DID has multiple, distinct personalities. The various identities control a person's behavior at different times. The condition can cause memory loss, delusions or depression. DID is usually caused by past trauma." Recited Sadie straight from the site.

"Jeez, past trauma? Hope he, they? They, are ok." Said Jaz, grabbing the empty cups and placing them on the tray beside her. "I'm going into the library. There might be more information about DID in there." Said Carter, standing up from his seat and walking towards the library.

"Well, while he's doing that, I'm gonna go and say hello to Khufu." Said Sadie, standing up as well. The rest of the magicians go their separate ways as well.

Carter briskly walked over to the library and asked the retrieval shabti to give him any books in the library on DID as well as books concerning how the gods choose their avatars. Within a few minutes, his nose was buried in a very lengthy book covering mental health conditions.

After a few minutes of reading, he didn't learn much aside from what Sadie already told him and symptoms and signs of DID. He then grabbed a scroll of papyrus where the process of gods choosing their avatar was inscribed in hieroglyphs, and started reading that as well.

"So Khons was able to coerce Marc to become his host because his mind is weak?" Muttered Carter to himself, continuously reading the papyrus. He frowned slightly, pulling out his phone and clicking on the contact he named "Marc, Steven, and Jake".

How did you guys meet Khons?

Carter put his phone away and stood up. He asked the nearest shabti to put back the books he borrowed before leaving the library.

He could wait to get a notification, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't hope they replied sooner rather than later.
