MEMORIES AND FRENEMIES

"Do you...Remember me?"

I finally catch my breath again after a moment of recluse with my memories.

"Ja...Jackson?"

"The one and only."He smugly grins, now fully turned in our direction.

"But the question is do you have the moves to prove it?" I suddenly say without eventhinking.

Why did I just saythat?!

Harrison's little headbobs from me to Jackson excitedly.

"Oooh I don't think you'd wanna challenge him anymore Destiny."

Harrison proudly tells me. "He's been practising."

I raise a brow insuprise. "Oh has he now?"

Jack casually shrugs off the compliment before spinning back round to meet an astoundedLauren.

"Um, WOULD you mind J? HELLO? tryna get a bit of practice in around these parts??"

"Yep well, aren't we all." Jackson responds dryly. He doesn't budge from standing infront of us. Laur keeps staring back at him with dilated pupils. Ohno...

"You want this sideof the rink so bad J? You willing to stand in my way to stop me?"Lauren mock fully asks. "This your territory now or something?"

"Just don't joke around on the ice like that, someone must get HURT bad."

Lauren smiled while nodding his head up and down. "Yeah? Yeah? I see the way you want to play this, okay then, lets play by your rules, if you agree tosome of my rules."

"You want a skating duel?" Jackson confidently smiles. "Because if so...i'm all ears."

"Oh no." I grumble

"Oh yes!" Harrison exclaims.

Lauren shakes Jackson'shand smiling back. "Next week?"

"Next week."

"This time?"

"This time."

"Hockey or Skater heel?"

"Hockey."

Lauren puts his handsup, skating backwards towards the rink's exit. "You have a deal my man."

"You better beprepared." Jackson grins.

"Oh i'd watch that attitude and curve that expression."

The tension is so thick not even my skates could cut it. All I did was get on the ice and now i've started a fight?

I sigh "This is a disaster."

Harrison beams at me."Yes! A complete and utter disaster! this is entertainment, the rink hasn't had something like this in months!"

Jackson faces us again."You know with all that edge in your voice, i'd suspect you travelled a while to get back down here."

"12 hours." I respond wearily.

"Damn girl."

"jackson."

"mm?"

I start playing with myhair slightly. "Thank you, um..., for, protecting us."

Jackson rolls his eyes."Please, that was nothing, Laur is just over his head that's all."

"Is he always like that these days?"

"Depends on who triggers him , woah there Destiny don't look so concerned! He's not going round beheading 10 year olds on the ice if that's what you're wondering!"

"Hmm." I think to myself. Triggering? Could I be triggering for him? I wonder why.

Suddenly we all hear a shriek.

"Look what you did to my leggings!!!"

Uh oh, the wrath of mysister!

I point Harry and Jackin the direction of my sister and Ariza. "Now that my friends, is entertainment."

Nia begins spinning offroute, skating anti clockwise, which is something all together.

Jackson's thick brows nitted close "Did someone piss her off?"

"i didn't mean to!-"

Ari sheepishly trailed behind her, echoing broken meaningless apologies over and over until they became dust to anyone listening. "i'm sorry!" "No you'renot!"

My two friends skate inmy direction, allowing myself ample earshot to hear their latest argument.

"Look Nia, are you gonna keep giving me those death glares or are you finally going togive me a chance to explain why I accidentally fell on you?"

"Oh don't think I can't do both! I am quite, the multitasker." She snaps.

I lower my voice to a deep growling tone.

"Nia's eyes are darkened by time itself! The villainess reveals her true form once the
tragic arc of wet iceleggings and bruised up kneecaps-"

"WOULD YOU SHUT UP!"Nia yells at me.

"You know, you'd make a pretty good storyteller Des." Jackson says turning to me.

"really, you think?"

"pretty damn wellactually."

I grin. The smell ofFrostbite has worn away now.

"I'm hungryyyy."Ariza moans dragging herself over to us in a sluggish manner.

"Same." I nod.We've been here for a while, it's probably best to get a bite to eat.

"Sup ma dudes."Jackson smiles, greeting the other two.

"You hungry too Nia?"Harrison asks politely.

"Mmm, yeah, I reallywanna dig into all those chocolates in my bag." Nia pipes up,suddenly not so grumpy anymore.

"Let's all go to thatmassive convenience store round the corner and buy snacks!" Isuggest happily.

"There's a big Coffeeshop on the top floor, we could all eat there and get drinks!"

"cool!"

"i dig that."

"i need to open mylocker door first!"

"Do they validateparking here?"

And so we all got ourthings, got our things from our lockers and dashed out of the centertogether to buy Doritos, skittles, Chocolate loafs, muffins and hotchocolates till our bellies grew full and the sky turned pink orange.
