ii ; almost a murder

"Tonight, before the game, out of respect for last night's tragic events, Sunnyvale will host a candlelight vigil for the victims. All player, cheer, and band attendance is mandatory."

The teenagers protest and groan, Kate looks back to Deena, holding her fingers up to her head like a gun, fake shooting herself.

After the quick announcement, Deena changes into her band uniform, climbing on the bus after Kate. Simon growls as Deena passes his seat, he had green face paint on and was dressed as a witch like the dork he was. Adam sat next to him, tired and almost asleep as he rested his head on the window. Deena sat behind them, in the very back seat. She pulled her headphones up, playing Radiohead's Creep. Adam was still listening to music, listening to Metallica's The Unforgiven. You gotta give it to them, they had good music taste.

The pale brunette was just as excited as Deena to be forced to attend the vigil, it was mostly because the Sunnyvale students didn't care or show any respect at any of the vigils. It was so fucking stupid and everyone had to come. Finally at sundown, they reached the infamous 'Now leaving Shittyside' sign that was vandalized years ago. Looking at those big, clean and not run down houses and buildings of Sunnyvale put Adam in a bad mood, knowing he'd probably never amount to enough to even have half of that, let alone ever leave Shadyside.

At the vigil, Simon and Adam stood next to each other as they held their lit candles as Mayor Goode gave a long, droning speech. Adam looked to Simon, whispering.

"You know, you look fucking stupid right now"

"That was the point, stupid."

"I'm just saying, take it off before we get on the bus, I don't want any teachers yelling at you" Adam tells the blonde, "One more detention and you're getting a call home"

"Ugh, true" Simon groans, looking back at the Sunnyvale students whispering, "They definitely give a shit"

"Yeah, the only ones who came were the ones that had to, football team and cheerleaders" Adam rolls his eyes. "They're just talking amongst themselves like we aren't honoring a dead girl."

After another few minutes, the stadium lights turned off, all that was illuminating the students was the candle lights they held as they stood in silence.

Adam hoped he wouldn't be next, he was always a paranoid overthinker, but attending this vigil made it feel worse for some reason. Maybe it was the constant lack of sleep or the genuine belief inside that the witch was real. Every handful of years, another killing spree happens, the facts are solid. Adam relied on facts to keep his ill mind straight.

"It ain't a tragedy when it happens every week" some Sunnyvale football player snarkily speaks.

"What did you just say?" Adam asks, turning around and calling the kid out.

"I said it ain't a tragedy when it happens every week" He says, "It's a joke"

"Square up, tough guy, come on" Adam taunts, taking his jacket off and throwing it to Simon as he stands by.

"Watch it, punk" the kid replies.

"You watch it, you privileged waste of fucking life." Adam retorts

The kid lunges after Adam, tossing him to the ground as he wiggles out from underneath him before he could land a punch on the brunette. This grabbed literally everyone's attention, the football players on both sides just watched as Adam kicked the shit out of the blonde football player.

"Say it again, motherfucker. Say it! You pussy!" Adam exclaims, standing over top the football player.

People formed a large circle around the two as the Sunnyvaler had the balls to say it again, leading a few football players to fight each other. No one was paying attention to them however, they were all staring at Adam and the prick Sunnyvaler who started it. The mayor tried breaking the other boys up, however it wasn't working. Not much you can do standing too far away to make a difference. Simon stood in the front row of people, taking his broom and whacking a football player that was about to attack Adam. He threw up the middle finger as the guy chased him through the crowd.
