Mary and dexters crazy day

Mary was turning 16 the next week she was so excited however they were having the party early because family from different countries are visiting and they don't want to overwhelm them.

She was walking to the stables to check on the horses and her gelding dexter, Her boy dex was the best she would trust him with her life!
she finally got to the stables she was trusted with the copy of the key so she could just start unlocking it here she checked all the recently born foals it was spring and doubled checked the horses that had gone lame.

She refilled the water, food and did a bit of mucking out and remade the horse beds

She started to groom dexter brushing out his main and tail and finally picking his hooves
She started to tack him up

She made the stirrups to her liking she hated these stirrups they were so weird to work with!
She mounted up and walked out of the stables one of the horses in the stables tried to nip dexter just pinned his ears back trying to nip at the other but didn't get a chance.

She trotted over to the woods saying hi to people when she got there she broke into a steady canter "Woooh!" She yelled at no one in particular 'this was so fun the adrenaline is so just unexplainable.

But then they heard wolves dexter skidded to a stop looking around anxiously may was panicking a big ok maybe a bit more than a little bit 'maybe they're further away' she thought
But then they came into view dexter was throwing small bucks and rears may didn't know what to do!
And Dexter was off bolting she lifted herself from the saddle as they galloped through the dense woods

The wolves were gaining throwing their clawed paws at Dexter's flank she kicked him on a bit

One of the wolves got a scratch on Dexter's flank as the horse screeched galloping faster the wolves gave up and ran back further into the forest.

When she was sure they were all gone she dismounted dex and held onto the reins inspecting the scratch she sighed shakily and started to lead dex through the thick forest trees.

When she got home she asked her friend Brigid to call a vet immediately she did very quickly "how much time till they get here" she questioned leading dexter into his stall on shaky legs.

"Maybe 10-20 mins

"The scratch isn't fatal or anything" said the vet "just put this cream on for a week if it's not any better then call again okay?"

"Right okay that's amazing heh"

She patted dexters neck "crazy day boy right?"
