Settling in

It's been 4 months since she arrived in this new world. And about a mount since she had finally come to terms with it. Yes, she was ecstatic that everyone didn't know who she was, but it was the only thing she ever knew.
It was hard, but accepting that small fact made her transition into being a normal teenager and made things simpler. That doesn't mean she was actually a normal teenager.
Sleeping was something Marigold knew only from distant memory, and her protection spells were easily strong enough to kill anyone, anyone human that was.

But today was something new

Downing her coffee, which she had made about half an hour ago and completely stone-cold, all before picking up her bag she set out for school on her bike she bought over the summer. Well, bought is a strong word, more like magically compelled the guy from the shop.

Anyway, parking at school was worse than Marigold thought. The loud engine announced her presence, so when she walked towards the doors, ignoring the whispers and stares
She knew what they were saying, and the reason was something that no one was going to forget in a hurry.

Apparently, someone had taken photos and posted them on My space. So even if she wanted to go around obliviating the whole town, something that Sheila had to stop her from doing at least 7 times and scold Bartholomew Bennett for encouraging her more than double that.
Eventually, someone would know and wonder why they couldn't remember, then again, many people were drinking

"Miss Potter," The secretory muttered with a displeased frown, when she looked up from her computer seeing the newest resident of the town enters her admin office
"My reputation proceeds itself then," Marigold said with a nervous twitch of her lips
"Unfortunately," she drawled. The distaste was palpable, even more so when she handed her a card folder, "Your timetable, and locker combination"

"Thanks"
And with that, the girl dressed in embroidered flared jeans, a form-fitting strappy top underneath a large open purple flannel and her leather jacket; hurried out of the office.

Marigold was so far in her own head she didn't even realise she had bumped into someone, until a pair of hands found themselves on her waist steadying her.
Flashing him an apologetic smile, "Sorry, my fault"
Holding up her fluorescent yellow folder, completely ignoring his shocked expression telling him awkwardly "I'm new"
"It's alright" The teen replied softly, easing Marigold's utter embarrassment
Not having anything else to say, the Auburn-haired Wixen walked off after giving him a nod goodbye.

Yet, walking further down the hall carefully avoiding people, Marigold's mind was colliding with itself.
Who was that man, he was dead and alive, definitely not an Inferi, they wouldn't be forgotten any time soon. And what was that golden thread around his head?
It was just like the one around Elena has, she saw it when Bonnie and Caroline brought her along to see if they could do anything for the Gilbert girl. It was very faint as if it was a trick of the light, but his seemed much stronger... brighter; a glowing halo for an angel

Looking at her timetable after spotting Elena head into the men's room, not questioning it at all, since the things people have seen her do were extremely questionable. Like that incident, her mind offered.
Seeing her first lesson was history she went off to find Mr Tanner's classroom, not knowing she was heading in the wrong direction

Once finding the room itself and was already doing better than her first lesson first year of Hogwarts since she was on time.
But right now, Marigold wished she wasn't as her teacher, Mr Tanner, stood behind his desk with the posture Percy Weasley was known to have when he declared to anyone who breathed that he was a Prefect or Head boy
"Once our home state of Virginia joined the confederacy in 1861, it created a tremendous amount of tension within the state. People in Virginia's northwest region had different ideals than those from the traditional deep south. Then Virginia divided in 1863 with the northwest region joining the union"

As he continued to prattle on, Marigold had the intention of making notes, but the moment her pen touched paper; a dance began. Even though the only pen she used was black, different colours began to brighten the dull white page.
The next thing she knew, the bell sounded disrupting the steady rhythm. Packing away, not noticing a pair of eyes watching her, Marigold went to chemistry

The following day, it was just after lunch and was once again in history, wishing she had never chosen the blasted subject
"The Battle of Willow Creek took place right at the end of the war in our very own Mystic Falls. How many casualties resulted in this battle?"
Not getting an answer, he zoned onto the person not listening "Ms Bennett?"
Startled, Bonnie looked up from her phone saying uncertainly "Um...a lot? I'm not sure. Like a whole lot"

"Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Ms Bennett" The bully of a teacher snarked, as his eyes scanned for his next victim "Mr Donovan? Would you like to take this opportunity to overcome your embedded jock stereotype?"
"It's okay, Mr Tanner, I'm cool with it" Matt replied, gaining him a few laughs from people around him

Humming in distaste, Tanner then aimed the question at another, very inappropriately too. "Elena? Surely you can enlighten us about one of the town's most significant historical events?"
"I'm sorry, I-I don't know" The Gilbert Doppelganger stuttered
The smug History teacher tutted, in the most condescending possible way imaginable said "I was willing to be lenient last year for obvious reasons, Elena. But the personal excuses ended with summer break"

And that was the final straw for the British world traveller.
Standing up, making her chair screech as she did, banging her hands onto her desk, seething "Excuse me, you utter ponce"
No one in the room what that meant, but the way Tanner began to turn a shade one would be able to find in the Gryffindor common room; he did

"First, calling a student cute, that is a lawsuit waiting to happen"
The whole room was silent, they were in disbelief, even more so when the British Lady said "B, calling a student dumb; then maybe teach the material in the first place"
It was confirmed, Marigold Potter was insane but also had more bravery than the Shining Knight in all the fairy tales "Trois, who the fuck are you to tell someone who lost their parents 4 months ago, and says it's an excuse to not do work"

"Miss Potter," Mr Tanner exclaimed, as he finally remembered how to speak "perhaps you should calm down"
Scoffing as Marigold crossed her arms, which was more for the students' safety than his "What's next, going to ask if I'm menstruating. And by the way, there were 346 casualties, unless you're counting local civilians"

You would have to be stupid not to recognise the respect and awe the students were giving her. Turns out, even in this new world, people were going to despise and revere her all in one breath "I picked up a book; perhaps you do the same"

Tanner gripped her forearm quite harshly, as the 17-year-old walked towards the exit. Not caring for the gasps of outrage from his students, he spat "I am a professor; I should be shown respect"
"You're a teacher of a small town that seemingly only likes to be taught about enforcing slavery in the 1800's" Marigold spoke softly, making more of an impact than shouting.

There was no pain, despite the pressure, and so she expertly twisted his arm around saying into the pain-pinched face of the man "Respect is earned, and that is something you will never get from me"
