Portgas D. Ace was schedule to be executed by the Marine government for being the biological son of Gol D. Roger, the king of the pirates. But there were people who were against that idea as they went to Marineford to stop his execution. Two of those people were Whitebeard, Ace's captain and father, and Monkey D. Luffy, Ace's brother. These two people risked it all just to try and save him, and they almost did.
But Ace sacrifice himself to save Luffy who was about to be struck down by Akainu. Akainu had punch his lava fist straight through Ace's chest as he shielded Luffy from the attack.

"Ace" Luffy said as he was shock to see his brother, the man he wanted to save from his execution, sacrificing himself for him. Akainu pulled out his fist from Ace's chest as Ace spitted out blood. "Ace!" Luffy shouted as Ace fell on him and Luffy caught his body. "I'm sorry... Luffy" Ace said. "Ace! Hurry, we've got to get you help!" Luffy said.
"Sorry I couldn't let you save me. I'm sorry" Ace said. "What the hell are you talking about!? Somebody help him! Please save Ace!" Luffy said as people were trying to get a doctor to Ace. "It's too late. I can tell that my life is coming to an end. He burned my insides, I'm done for. So, listen Luffy-"
"Huh, no way! You promise me! You said... That you'd never die... No matter what! Ace!" Luffy shouted. "Yeah... Just like with Sabo. If I didn't have an annoying little brother like you... I would never have thought to live" Ace said. Memories of people telling him that people would kill the child of Roger just for being his child began appearing in his head.
"Everybody would say that... I can't blame them" Ace said. He remember times he would beat up people because they didn't like the idea that Roger would have a child. The only person who was by his side, was the person who had been raising him: Dadan. "Oh yeah... When you see Dadan again... Tell her thanks... Now that I'm about to die... I even miss her. I only have... One regret. That I couldn't see you achieve your dream. But I'm sure you'll do it, you're my brother after all! Just like... We swore... I've lived with no regrets."
"No, you liar!" Luffy told him. Ace chuckled before saying "It's not a lie. The thing I really wanted wasn't fame or anything. What I really wanted was to know. That it was ok for me to be born." Ace cough a bit before saying "I can't... Talk for much longer... Luffy, what I'm about to tell you... You go tell.. Everyone else."
"Old man! Everyone! And Luffy! I'm a worthless man! With the blood of a demon flowing through me! Thank you for loving me!" Ace shouted with the top of his lungs.
